aged 34 yeares or thereabouts sworne and<br />
examined.
To the first and second article sof the said allegation hee saith and deposeth<br />
that hee hath well knowne the producent William Bolyn<br />
for theise thirtie yeares last or neare thereabouts and even from his<br />
infancie, they being borne and brought up neare another in Saint<br />
Malo's where they were play fellowes when they were children: And<br />
saith that about elaven or twelve yeares since the said William<br />
Bolyn being sett upon in the night time by a company of lewd<br />
fellowes, who abused him and cutt off his handsome longe haire<br />
with knives and cisors, and mangled, with which affront hee was<br />
soe inraged that hee left the towne suddanily and made an oath<br />
that hee would never retourne thither againe and soe hee went<br />
to Amsterdam where hee hath dwelt ever since, being a<br />
merchant there of good fashion, and there this deponent hath bin at<br />
his house, and seene that hee is a houskeeper there, and saith<br />
that the said William Bolyn having lived soe longe as aforesaid<br />
at Amsterdam was and is commonly reputed a subiect of the Lords<br />
the States of the United Netherlands, and a Burgher of that<br />
citie, And otherwise hee cannot depose as hee saith.
To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING]
To the first hee saith hee doth not knowe the said shipp the ''Crosse''<br />
''of Jerusalem'', nor did ever belonge unto her, and saith hee hath<br />
alwaies lived at Saint Malo's saving when hee hath bin in voyages at<br />
sea, and dwelleth her at this present, and saith hee hath noe<br />
relation by kindred or otherwise to the said William Bolyn, nor hath<br />
this deponent any space in the said shipp or lading, nor any interest<br />
therein.
To the second hee saith that the said William Bolyn (whose title is<br />
Simon de La Gard) hath lived at Amsterdam as aforesaid, referring<br />
himselfe to his foregoeing deposition.
To the third and the rest of the Interrogatories hee saith<br />
that hee cannot answer therto further than as aforesaid, for hee<br />
knoweth nothing of the said shipp or of the voyage in question.
