To the 5th hee saith hee well knoweth bein … To the 5th hee saith hee well knoweth being aboard that there was<br />
not much oyle videlicet as hee beleaveth not above halfe a tonne of oyle<br />
pumped out betweene the Port of her receiving the same and this Port of<br />
London And saith that hee this deponent when the sayd oyle and wines<br />
were shipped did finde fault with the caske as conceiveing they would<br />
not have held soe tight as to this depondent in the voyage afterwards<br />
appeared they did and hee saith there were empty caske aboard<br />
the ''Pilgrim'' wherein a good part of the oyles pumped out after<br />
damage in question receaved) was saved, in such case as it could bee, and<br />
was, being much dammified by mixture with water, And further to<br />
this Interrogatory hee cannot answere/
To the 6th hee saith the wine and oyle caske Interrate was surveyed before the<br />
breaking of the longers by captaine Francis Ashmore and others whose<br />
names hee remembreth not and saith they found the oyles and wines to be leaked out by<br />
defect of the caske and not by badd stowage and saith hee knoweth<br />
the ''Pilglrim'' did receive damage by the ''Exeter Merchant''s falling fowle<br />
of her and forceing her aground jfor that hee observed that perfectly<br />
after the same both there and the caske of the oyles and wine in her was<br />
much more leakie then formerly they had bin And further saving his<br />
foregoeing deposition hee cannot answere otherwise than negatively/

Shipwright aged 50 yeares of thereabouts a wittnes<br />
sworne and examined saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet
To the first second and third articles of the said allegation hee saith that during<br />
all the tyme in the first article mentioned hee this deponent (being the arlate<br />
Jonas Shish) was a Purveyor for Tymber and imployed for buying of tymber<br />
for the use of the Navie of this Commonwealth And the performance of such<br />
his office and imployment did within the sayd tyme contract and agree with for and buy<br />
of the arlate John Tanner Lawrence Waters and Henry Richardson then liveing who<br />
were accompted to be partners together in thirds for the use of this Commonwealth a quantitie of tymber and<br />
plankes to the quantitie of sixe hundred (?load) and upwards which was felled<br />
in Easrsham Parke in the County of Norffolke and lying then together<br />
and in other places in and neere sayd Parke<br />
