make or to that effect In obedience to which command the sayd Gough<br />
as Commander and this deponent and the sayd 45 men of the ''Lyon's'' company<br />
did staye on board though with great hazard of their lives and with<br />
continuall labour of two hand pumps continually goeing and divers<br />
bayling water continually with bucketts and helpe of a spritsayle<br />
they had of the ''Lyon'' which they made serve for a foresayle for the shipp<br />
Interrogate the at length brought her to Brieksham Key in Tourbay<br />
which was the first port they could make the winde blowing hard to the<br />
Southwards where after she was arrived her leakes were stopped.<br />
And this deponent there left her being ordered by the vice Admiral there<br />
to returne to his ship the ''Lyon'' which hee accordingly did And therefore<br />
cannot further answere to this Interrogatorrie.
To the second Interrogatorie hee saith there was noe living thing aboard the sayd<br />
shipp when shee was soe found driving as aforesayd save a dogg<br />
and catts and suchlike vermin and saith shee had then aboard her a good<br />
quantitie of trayne vy be some whalebone, and much empty calke, and<br />
some bread which was all spoiled with wett received and as touching what<br />
Condition the vessel itselfe was then in hee hath answered to it before<br />
soe much as hee can And further hee cannot answere/
To the third hee saith hee knoweth not the name of the shipp Interrogate nor<br />
who had bin Master of her nor whence she came, but conceiveth by her<br />
ladeing shee came from Greeneland, nor knoweth hee whether shee was<br />
bound And further to this interrogatorie hee cannot answere/
To the 4th hee saith that when the shipps the ''Lyon'' was a great distance<br />
off there were fower or five shipps neere the shipp Interrogate but<br />
made away from her as the ''Lyon'' drew neerer but whether they were<br />
of the Company of the sayd shipp hee knoweth not but beleeveth<br />
rather they were some that had bin in fight with her and had taken<br />
away her men and were plundering of her and seeing the ''Lyon'' come<br />
made away And further hee cannot to this Interrogatorie depose<br />
saving hee saith hee heard his contest John Gough who went in the<br />
shipp Interrogate to dartmouth and there delivered her ladeing saye and<br />
affirme that some ffrench men there who helped to unlade the sayd<br />
shipp sayd that they were at sea in Company of the shipp Interrogate<br />
before shee was found driveing in the manner aforesayd and that<br />
they knew shee did belonge to ffrenchmen./
To the 5th Interrogatorie hee saith the shipp Interrogate is as this deponent judges<br />
by her mould and shape flemish built, and saith there is a picture on her<br />
sterne but what the same is hee remembreth not. And saith [hee]<br />
knoweth of any writings whatsoever found aboard her and<br />
further to this Interrogatorie hee cannot answere./
To the last hee saith hee believeth the shipp Interrogate had bin<br />
in fight with some other shipp or shipps not longe before shee was<br />
foundot longe before shee was<br />
