Stepney in the County of Middlesex mariner aged<br />
32 yeares or thereabouts sworne before the right<br />
Worshipfull William Clarke doctor of lawes one of the<br />
Judges of the high Court of the Admiraltie saith<br />
and deposth as followeth videlicet.
That the shipp the ''John and Ambrose'' of London whereof this deponent<br />
was master being on or about the sixth of November last, cast away<br />
upon the Spitt of the Whitaker of Malden with her lading of<br />
goods from Rassia, and that diverse of the said goods being saved<br />
and come into the hands of severall persons dwelling in and neere<br />
Tolesbury, Thomas ffowell and other merchants of this citie,<br />
owners of the said goods [?XXed] or obtained a Commission out of this<br />
Court for the enquirie after and Recovery of the said goods, and<br />
sent the same this deponent to get it executed, And<br />
this deponent comming to Tolesbury, to execute the said<br />
Commission, hee understanding that one Andrew Rand the<br />
Constable of the towne had got some of the said goods into his<br />
possession, whereupon this deponent on or about the eleaventh of<br />
the said moneth went unto him to warne him<br />
to take his oath and to be examined, and finding him at the white<br />
hart in the said towne, warned him accordingly, and the said Rand<br />
demanded by what authoritie this deponent warned him, and desiring<br />
to see his Commission, this deponent showed the same under the seale<br />
of this Court unto him, and the said Rande having gotten the same<br />
into his hand, clapt it into his pocket and said a flie for you and<br />
your Commission, where is nowe your Commission, or to that<br />
effect and much slighted the same, and there being other of the towne<br />
with him the said Rand, hee the said Rand speaking to them, said, I<br />
charge you to take him speaking of this deponent<br />
into your custodie, and see that hee be for th[?XX]ing. [?And GUTTER]<br />
