Transcription came directly aboard the vessell ''Successcame directly aboard the vessell ''Successe'' and brake her bowe downe to<br /> the very water and soe shattered and spoiled her with the blowe shee gave<br /> her by soe running against her that shee sunke soone after and perished in the sea<br /> both shee and sayd ladeing of Coales and all her tackle and furniture and provisions<br /> and the Mariners cloathes all save what they had on their backs and this deponents cloathes Instruments and other things aboard her And saith that hee this deponent<br /> and company before their sayd vessell the ''Successe'' soe sunke seeing the eminent<br /> danger they were in did crye out to the Company of the sayd shipp ''dove'' to<br /> helpe them of the ''Successe'' to save their lives, but the Company of the shipp ''dove''<br /> noe witt regarded their crye but hold on their course and sayled away without<br /> speaking any word to any of the ''Successe'' her Company or any (save one<br /> man which after the blowe given to the ''Successe'' by the ''dove'' stopt up upon the<br /> fforecastle of the ''dove'' but answered not a word) soe much as appearing upon<br /> the decks of the ''dove'', which they did (as this deponent beleeveth that they<br /> might the better escape unknowne and that if the company of the ''Successe'' were<br /> all drowne it might never be knowne who did the sayd mischeife and were<br /> the cause thereof, which this deponent and Company perceiving presently betooke<br /> them selves to their boate (and soe through Gods mercie saved themselves<br /> therein but the vessell ''Successe'' with her ladeing and all things else therein within<br /> a shorte space after this deponent and Company were gott into their boate<br /> sunke downe and perished in the sea by reason of the blow shee receaved as<br /> aforesayd from the ''dove'' And saith that after this deponent and company had<br /> continued in their sayd boate (rowing and keeping her head upon the sea that<br /> shee might not be full of water) by the space of three howers without either meate<br /> drinke or fresh water to preserve them in case they could light of noe assistance, it<br /> pleased God that a hoye or vessell belonging to a place called [?Soule] (the vessells name<br /> hee knoweth not) but saith the Master of her was called John Wiggs, being bound to<br /> Newcastle and seeing this deponent and company in such distresse and danger of being<br /> cast away tooke compassion of them and tooke him this deponent and company into the<br /> sayd hoy or vessell and brought them to Sheilds neere Newcastle And further<br /> to these articles hee cannot depose saving his subsequent deposition/ To the 6th and 7th articles hee saith that hee this deponent and Company did<br /> in the sayd hoye or vessell arrive safe at Sheilds neere Newcastle upon the 11th day<br /> of August last, and saith that this deponent and the sayd John Wiggs tooke a<br /> wherry the same day and went up therein to Newcastle and goeing by Jarra Key<br /> which is neere Newcastle this deponent there sawe the ''dove'' in this suite complayned<br /> of lying on the outside of the other shipps there and a carpenter then at worke<br /> upon her bowe and sawe shee had then her bowe dubbed the better to<br /> see what hurte shee had receaved with the blowe shee made when she runne<br /> against the ''Successe'' aforesayd when shee sunke the same, which repayre and dubbing<br /> the sayd shipp the ''dove'' would not have needed if shee had not runne against<br /> the ''Successe'' in manner predeposed and thereby hurt her the sayd ''doves'' bowe And<br /> hee saith that hee this deponent did observe and soe did his precontest<br /> Andrew Cristi and others of the Company of the ''Successe'' that the shipp that runne<br /> against the ''Successe'' and sunke her in manner predeposed had then when shee soe did the<br /> same the picture of an Angell in her head and of a ''dove'' in her sterne and soe the shipp ''dove'' in this<br /> suitee shipp ''dove'' in this<br /> suite  +
