arlate formerly called the ''Love'' and no … arlate formerly called the ''Love'' and now called the ''Mary'' (whereof the arlate Richard Thompson was Master) and thereby
the better knowetg that upon or about two of the clock in the morning of the two
and twentith day of June last past the sayd vessell the ''Love'' was comming up
the River of Thames against the tyde betwixt Blackwall and Greenwich
and came as neere the shoare as conveniently shee could
it being then ebbing water, And saith that at the same
tyme the vessell the ''REbeccca'' arlate (whereof as he hath heard and beleeveth
the arlate Thomas [?Painter] was Master) came downe with the tyde of
Ebb very little winde being then stirring And the sayd vessell the ''Rebecca'' comeing neere
the shoare and with the tyde of Ebbe
and neere the vessell the ''Love'' aforesayd the Master of the ''Rebecca'' or
some of the Company thereof spake to the sayd Thompson
and Company of the ''Love'' and bid them first starr board, and then imediately [?bad] them port their
helme, And the sayd Thompson being himselfe at the helme accordingly
did soe and steered as neere the shoare as possible hee could without
puting his bessell the ''Love'' on ground and then told the sayd [?Printer] that hee the sayd Thompson was as neere the shoare with his vessell which notwithstanding the sayd
vessell the ''Rebecca'' holding on her course did runne her boltspritt against
the Mayne mast and mayne sayle of the sayd shipp the ''Love'' and soe
cleered off againe without receaving any hurt at all from the ''Love'' soe farr as
this deponent being theron board the ''Love'' could or did observe, And hee
further saith that about fower or five
dayes after the premisses soe happened as before is declareed, the sayd
[?Printer] and an other man whome this deponent did then and doth beleeve to [?be]
one of his the sayd [?Printers] shipps company) came to the sayd Thompsons
house in Saint Katherines and desyred to speake with the sayd Thompson who [?was]
not then within, and hee not being within, the sayd [?Printer] told this deponent
that his sayd shipp the ''Rebecca'' and the goods in her was damaged by reason shee fell [?fowle]
on the ''Love'' and desyred this deponent to tell the sayd Thompson
thereof and desyre him the sayd Thompson to come and view yje samage done and [?this]
deponent then speakeing to the man who came with the sayd [?Printer]
asked him whether the company of the sayd shipp the ''Rebecca'' did pumpe
heer presently after her falling fowle of the ''Love'' and search her whether shee were dammaged or to that effect [?whereto]
hee answered that they did pumpe her presently after her falling fowle
as aforesayd and search her but could not then perceive that the sayd ''Rebecca'' had [?received]
any damage thereby And further to these articles hee cannot depose [?saving]
hee saith hee hath heard the sayd vessell the ''Rebecca'' sayled soe [?lower ?to]
Woolwich the same tyde of ebb after shee fell fowle of the ''Love'' [?as]
aforesayd./
To the 6th hee saith that hee knoweth of noe damage done by the shipp
the ''Love'' aforesayd to the sayd shipp ''Rebecca'', and saith that in case
any damage was done to the sayd ''REbecca'' by her falling fowle
of the ''Love'' aforesayd in manner aforesayd, the same was and happened (in this
deponents judgement) through the carelessenes and neglect of [?the]
master and company of the ''Rebecca'' and by their comeing soe neere [?the]
shoare upon the tyde of ebb, whereas their safest way tp avoide [?XXX]
