to goe stiersman of the said shipp, and recounted unto this deponent all<br />
the stories and accidents of the voyage, namely that the said shipp<br />
came from Courland about a yeare before such her arrivall at Martinica<br />
under the conduct of Claus fferederickson her master and company,<br />
at which time hee the said Cornelius was boatswaine of her, and that<br />
shee was thence set out in ballast in the imployment of the duke of<br />
Courland (whose shipp shee was and is) to goe to Amsterdam to take<br />
in commodities proper for the Guiney trade, for his the said dukes<br />
accompt, And that accordingly shee went and tooke in her lading of<br />
currall, knoves, a[?XXX-rings] and copper barrs or staves, and went therewith<br />
for Guiney and aarived there, and that on the coast of Guiney the<br />
said Claus fferderickson dying, the said Cornelius became master of<br />
the said shipp, and that at Guiney shee traded and trucked away<br />
part of her said lading for Negro's and some Elephants teeth<br />
for the accompt aforesaid, and carried the same being 80 Negroes and<br />
16 Elephants teeth to Martinica aforesaid where this deponent sawe<br />
her arivall about 8 monethes since, and that there<br />
her Cape merchant who<br />
was sent alonge in her by the said duke landed the said Negro's and<br />
disposed of them, intending with the proffit or<br />
proceede of them to lade tobaccoes aboard the said shipp, but the<br />
time of the yeare being past and the tobaccoes all gone, and the<br />
said Cornelius ffrederickson the master refusing to stay till the next<br />
cropp as the said factor would have had him, they went there to lawe<br />
thereabouts, and at length the said shipp (having onely taken in<br />
seaventeen rolls of tobaccoe and noe other goods or<br />
merchandizes there) came thence being dismissed thence by order of<br />
the Court or authoritie there, and thence shee came to Saint Christofers<br />
and tooke in only water and there the said Cornelius ffrederickson<br />
dying, this deponent was made and became master in his steade<br />
and soe with the said shipp and the said 16 Elephants teeth and<br />
about tenn or twelve pounds of beas-wax taken in at<br />
Guiney, and the said 17 Rolls of tobaccoe taken in at Martinica<br />
and the remainder of her goods brought from Amsterdam and<br />
not trucked away at Guiney, this deponent her master and<br />
company on or about the 16th of October last Newe stile<br />
came from Saint Christofers bound for Amsterdam there to dischardge<br />
and to deliver her lading to hendrick Mumma factor for the said<br />
duke and for the said dukes accompt, and that comming in her<br />
course for Amsterdam upon or neere the coast of England, this<br />
deponent and company mistooke their course through the<br />
extreame darkenesse of the weather and came into Saint Georges<br />
Channell and came as farr as Lundy ere they discovered any<br />
land after their departure from Saint Christofers, and then understanding<br />
where they were and their sailes being torne with stormes which<br />
they had met with all, and their victualls being spent, they<br />
went for bristoll there to repaire and to furnish themselves<br />
