since the sayd George Abbotts departure to … since the sayd George Abbotts departure to and arrivall at Virginia sent by him the sayd<br />
Abbott to the sayd Mr Wingfeild (which letters this deponent hath seene and<br />
perused) it dith appeare to this deponent, that the sayd goods and moneys did and<br />
doe amount to one hundred nynty five pounds sterling and that the sayd<br />
Abbott was to send the sayd Wingfeild the value of the sayd goods and money<br />
and what profitt could be made thereof in Virginia Tobaccoes and that hee the sayd<br />
Abbott had the sayd goods and arrived safely with them at Virginia in the<br />
sayd shipp and there disposed of them And further to these articles hee cannot<br />
depose./
To the third and 4th articles of the sayd libell hee saith that in or about the<br />
moneth of November 1653 hee this deponent did helpe to pack up certaine<br />
wares and Merchandizes amounting to the value of two hundred forty pounds<br />
three shillings eight pence sterling which were to be sent, and were sent to Virginia<br />
and laded on board the arlate shipp the ''Phenix'' (whereof the arlate ffrancis<br />
Steward was Master) and consigned to be delivered at Virginia to the sayd George<br />
Abbott And alsoe this deponents sayd Master Mr Wingfeild as by his booke appeareth to this deponent paid more for the use of the sayd George Abbott nyne pounds sterling And hee saith hee beleeveth that there was a Contract and agreement made<br />
betweene the sayd Wingfeild and Abbott that hee the sayd Abbott should send<br />
to him the sayd Wingfeild from Virginia the full value of the sayd goods<br />
and the profitt there made of them and he sayd nyne pounds and the profitt thereof in Virginia Tobaccoes for that hee hath seeme<br />
letters of advise from the sayd George Abbott sent to the sayd Wingfeild<br />
wherein hee acknowledged the receipt of the sayd goods and alsoe that hee was<br />
to send the sayd Wingfeild Virginia Tobaccoes for them, and the profitt there<br />
made of them, And saith that hee this deponent being the sayd Mr<br />
Wingfeilds servant and imployed by him to receive and take in such goods as are<br />
sent him the sayd Wingfeild from parts beyond the seas and being imployed to receive<br />
the same tobaccoes thereby knoweth, as alsoe by the letters of the sayd George Abbott sent<br />
from Virginia wherein hee expressed that hee had sent only 20 hogsheads of<br />
Virginia Tobaccoe, which letter this deponent hath seene and read) that the sayd<br />
George Abbott since his goeing to Virginia in the sayd shipp the ''dolphin''<br />
never returned any thing to the sayd Ralph Wingfeild in liew of all the goods<br />
and money predeposed of save only the sayd twenty hogsheads of tobaccoe, a great<br />
part of which 20 hogsheads were of this deponents sight and knowledge very much<br />
damnified, by reason whereof this deponent well knoweth the sayd Ralph<br />
Wingfeild is very much damnified and hath susteyned great losse but to<br />
what value hee cannot estimate And saith hee alsoe heard the sayd Mr Wingfeild<br />
affirme that at the sayd George Abbotts goeing from hence to Virginia hee the sayd<br />
Wingfeild did give him full power and authority to receive certaine debts owing to him<br />
the sayd Wingfeild in New England to the value of<br />
three hundred pounds sterling at the least and that the sayd George Abbott had alsoe<br />
contracted and agreed with him the sayd Mr Wingfeild to send him over Virginia<br />
Tobaccoes for the sayd 300 ''li'' and what profitt could bee made thereof in Virginia<br />
