and that the said Samuel Stanton arlate had the said<br />
Commissions aboard him and undertooke to putt them in<br />
execution for and on the behalfe of the arlate Rich and<br />
Company, The premisses he knoweth being (as he hath<br />
predeposed) Gunner of the said shipp the voyage in question<br />
did see the said Commissions aboard her, And further to<br />
the said articles (referring himselfe to the Charter party<br />
arlate) he cannot depose
To the fourth article, he referreth himselfe to the Charter party<br />
arlate And further he cannot depose
To the fifth and sixth articles he deposeth and saith That<br />
the arlate shipp the ''Elzabeth'' did depart from Gravesend<br />
upon the said warlike voyage upon or about the sixth day<br />
of December 1651, and that at that time the arlate<br />
Stanton had the said Letters of Reprizall or Commissions<br />
aboard him, and that the said shipp had victualls and<br />
other provisions at such her departure from Gravesend<br />
for 140 men for three months at least, And further<br />
he cannot depose.
To the seaventh article he deposeth that within twelve or<br />
thirteene dayes after the said sixth of December 1651 (sic) the<br />
said shipp the ''Elzabeth'' did take at Sea seaven prizes<br />
videlicet the ''Abrahams Sacrifice'', the ''fflagg of Truce'',<br />
the ''hovelin'', The ''Mary''; the ''Pauls returne''; The<br />
''ffisher'', and the ''Cooke'', And that the said Stainton with<br />
his man of warre did on the nineteenth of December 1651<br />
at night (as he best remembreth) arrive with th best fower of<br />
the sayd prizes in the Isle of Wight, And<br />
further he cannot depose.
To the eighth, ninth and tenth articles he deposeth and saith<br />
That the arlate Robert Rich did of this deponents knowledge<br />
come to the Isle of Wight while the said shipp the ''Elzabeth''<br />
then lay about the latter end of December 1651, and that<br />
about the midst of January 1651 the sayd Rich did give<br />
order and direction unto the sayd Samuel Stanton to<br />
proceed to Sea upon the said warlike designe, and that<br />
then this deponent was one amongst many others of the<br />
sayd shipp the ''Elzabeths'' Company, who subscribed to a<br />
writing declaring his this deponents and the rest of the<br />
subscribed their willingness to goe out to Sea upon the said<br />
imployment, and that the said Captaine Stanton then refused<br />
to goe, and stayd and kept the said man of warr there in<br />
the Isle of Wight untill the beginning of June 1652<br />
