sworne before the right worshipfull William Clerke<br />
doctor of lawes one of the Judges of the high Court of the<br />
Admiraltie, and examined upon certaine Interrogatories<br />
ministred on the behalfe of the said Valentine Austin, saith<br />
and deposeth as followeth, videlicet.
To the first and second Interrogatories hee saith and deposeth that<br />
hee never knew the shipp the ''ffortune'' of kerrick fergus (whereof<br />
Arthur Crowther is said to be master) either at Mevis or at [?XXXX]<br />
But this deponent hath heard that the interrogated Valentine Austin did<br />
at Mevis interrogated freight a halfe part of the said shipp for<br />
London about 3 quarters of a yeare since, and laded his said halfe part with<br />
tobaccoes, sugars and Indico's, And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the third hee saith hee hath heard and beleeveth that the said shipp<br />
with the said Austings goods aboard her departed from Mevis bound<br />
for this port of London, and that in her course of proceeding [?comming]<br />
off Scilly shee was taken by a Brest man of warr, and with<br />
her lading carried to Port Lewis in the dominions<br />
of the ffrench kinge, and there condemned and made prize, and<br />
that the losse of the said Valentine Austin amounted to about<br />
1800 ''li'' by the said seizure and confiscation. And this hee saith hee<br />
heard of three or foure persons of the company of the said<br />
shipp who went to said voyage and (as they said) were in her when<br />
shee was seized, and were present when shee and her lading [?were]<br />
confiscated, and some of them as they said sawe the said Indico's there [?seized]
