said lading of salt of a ffrench Merchant named Monsieur Viseau or Videau.<br />
the same consisting in thirteen hundred and eighteen Moyes of salt or thereabouts<br />
ffrench measure to be transported from thence to Edam for the accompt aforesaid<br />
videlicet of the said Claus Johnson hoone and Companie, The premisses hee knoweth<br />
being shipwright of the said shipp during the whole voiage in Controversye and<br />
thereby well acquainted with the premisses by him deposed. And further cannot<br />
depose:-
o the 3d hee saith That in or about the moneths of January and february<br />
last past at Souters aforesaid and at Saint Martins in france the said Master<br />
and Companie caused to be laden and putt aboard the said shipp for their<br />
respective accompts twenty six hogsheads of Vinegar three hogsheads of<br />
wyne one hogshead of brandewine, a quantity of about 150000. wall<br />
nutts to be also transported in the said shipp to Edam for thei accompt<br />
the same being the proceed of Cheese and other goods by them carried out<br />
of holland and sould in ffrance Which the premisses hee well knoweth as<br />
being one of the said shipps Companie in all the Voiage in question. And further<br />
cannot depose./
To the 4th hee saith, That the said Vessell in her Course from the Coast<br />
of ffrance for Edam aforesaid meeting with tempetuous and darke<br />
weather was about the 14th of ffebruary last past new style constrained<br />
to come to an anchor under Portland Castle, and there payd light and<br />
groundage duetie, and having ridd there one night and a day upon the<br />
second night shee was borded and taken by one Captaine Cotterell<br />
Commander and Companie of a private man of warr of this Nation<br />
who not once asking whence they came or whither they would cutt off<br />
the Cable whereby the said shipp ridd, and rann away with the said<br />
shipp and goods setting this examinate and his precontest ashoare at Weymouth<br />
where they had notice that the said shipp was by the said seizors brought into<br />
Studland bay neere Poole, upon which intelligence they repaired to Poole<br />
aforesaid, and having there procured a boate went aboard the said shipp<br />
which they found miserably plundered and pillaged videlicet of about fifty<br />
tonnes of salt, and that was therein at their departure from ffrance, but of<br />
what summe of money hee saith hee knoweth not, as also of one new<br />
maine topsaile, one hawseer, one maine sayle, one foresaile bonnett, more of<br />
the Cordage, one port or ballast sayle, two barrells of butter, two rowles<br />
of sayle cloath, all the said shipps provisions a paire of compasses the<br />
Master and Companies cloathes, all the said six and twenty hogsheads<br />
of Vinegar, three hogsheads of wyne, one hogshead of brandewyne and<br />
parcell of nutts aforesaid besides the anchor and Cable which they<br />
