To the first Interrogatorie hee saith that Mr Norleigh Interrogate did at<br />
Ligorno tell this deponent that hee was going to Porto ferrara to receive the<br />
goods there left by the shipp ''Thomas Bonadventure'', and the sayd Mr<br />
Norleigh a while after meeteing with this rendent againe at Ligorno told<br />
him that hee had bin at Porto fferrara and there receaved the goods<br />
there left by the sayd shipp ''Thomas Bonadventure'' And further hee<br />
cannot answere./
To the 4th hee saith that hee beleeveth that at all tymes of the yeare there is danger<br />
of men of warr in the passage from Cyprus to England and that divers English<br />
shipps have bin taken both by Turkes and ffrench men of warr and that the summer<br />
tyme is more dangerous to passe those waies then the winter And further<br />
hee cannot answeare./
To the 5th hee saith hee iudgeth it more prudent for a master of a shipp iin<br />
dangerous tymes to attend the Company of a Convoy (if hee have such an<br />
oportunitie (and bee not commanded to the Contrary either by his owners or<br />
ffreighters) then to goe without convoy and runne the hazard of his shipp and goods<br />
And further hee cannot answere
To the 6th hee saith hee well knoweth the Interrogated Captaine Badily and<br />
saith hee was sent as a Convoy into the streights in the yeare 1652 and<br />
that the Interrogate Charles Longland was then Comonly reputed Agent<br />
for the State of England and knoweth hee did by his power take up the sayd shipps<br />
''Thomas Bonadventure'', ''William and Thomas'', and ''Mary Rose'' to serve the sayd<br />
State and this deponent hath sene severall warrants or Commissions under his hand and seale to that effect and hee hath heard and beleeveth hee did the like at Genoa Nales and Venise<br />
And further hee cannot answere./
To the 7th hee saith hee beleevth it is a usuall thing for factors if they have not<br />
goods enough of their freighters to lade a shipp, then to lade any other mens<br />
goods to make up the shipps full ladeing, and hee beleeveth the master is as much obliged<br />
to take those other goods as those belonging to his freighters if they be at the same<br />
place where hee takes in his ladeing and goe to the same place whether hee is bound<br />
by Charterparty, and as hee beleeveth are liable to make good the damage happening<br />
by refusall to take in the sayd goods of others beside the freighters soe offered them<br />
And furthe hee cannot answere./
To the 8th hee saith hee knoweth not nor hath heard of any protest made by<br />
the Interrogate ffowke or any other to the efefct Interrogate, but saith it is<br />
usuall amongst Merchants in the streights to make protests against the Masters<br />
of shipps for not obeying orders, and hee beleeveth if such a protest be not<br />
made the Master is supposed not to have disobeyed And further hee<br />
cannot answere/
To the 9th hee saith that the shipps the ''William and Thomas'' the ''Mary Rose'' and severall other<br />
shippsse'' and severall other<br />
