To the 15 hee saith the time arlate there was a common fame<br />
and report in Portsmouth to the effect arlate, which hee knoweth<br />
being at Portsmouth and hearing the same. And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the first, second and third articles hee saith that Mr mathew<br />
Cock his precontest , then sub Collector at Portsmouth for Customes,<br />
acknowledged to this deponent (as hee remembreth) that the customs<br />
for the said tobaccoes were satisfied, when they were delivered as<br />
aforesaid, referring himselfe to his foregoeing deposition, And<br />
otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING]
To the first hee saith hee cometh upon the monition of an<br />
officer of this Court to be a witnesse in this businesse<br />
wherein hee hath noe share nor interest, and that hee hath not nowe<br />
any relation to the Customehouse nor Commissioners for<br />
prize goods. And otherwise hee cannot answer saving as<br />
aforesaid.
To the second hee saith hee wsa not present, and therefore<br />
cannot answer further then as aforesaid.
To the 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. and 8th hee cannot answer saving as aforesaid<br />
for this deponent doth not knowe the shipp the ''Mayflower'' arlate<br />
nor was hee (but very seldome) at Portsmouth within the time<br />
interrogated, hee going to Salisbury and being there for the most part<br />
after the deliverie of the said tobaccoes.
To the 9th hee saith hee well knew the interrogated henry Tebbet<br />
in his life time, who hee saith was at Portsmouth Sub-Commissioner<br />
of the excise, but saith hee hath noe reason to command his<br />
[?XXXXX], this deponent having about 6 yeares since sold him<br />
halfe a tonne of wine, for which (though he hath often require it)<br />
hee could never get satisfaction. And otherwise hee cannot answer<br />
though the letter interrogated were nowe showed unto him.
To the 10th hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition<br />
And otherwise hee cannot answer
To the last negatively for his part and otherwise hee<br />
cannot answer.
