To the second Interrogatorie hee saith tha … To the second Interrogatorie hee saith that the Interrogate Bartlet and Company<br />
(who sue for wages in this cause) after they had as is predeposed required of<br />
the foresayd William Maples part of their wages due to them to buy thenm<br />
necessaries and sawe that hee denyed to pay them any, and well seeing that<br />
the shipp ''Thomas and Lucie'' was much decayed and not fitt to goe upon a tradeing<br />
voyage without much cost and tyme spent in the repayreing and fitting of her<br />
to goe to sea, did refuse to staye in the sayd shipp and deserted her<br />
without the consent of the sayd Maples who told them hee would get his<br />
sayd shipp repayred with all speede And further hee cannot answere not<br />
knowing nor having heard of any protest made by the sayd Maples/

''and Lucie'' aged 23 yeares or thereabouts a witnes sworne and examined<br />
saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet./
To the first article of the sayd libell hee saith the arlate Thomas Broderick<br />
and Roger holton during all the tyme arlate were commonly accompted the lawfull Owners<br />
and proprietors of the arlate shipp ''Thomas and Lucie'' and the arlate William Maples during<br />
the sayd tyme was commonly reputed Master of her And hee hath heard the sayd<br />
Broderick and holton confesse that they were then Owners of the sayd shipp and had<br />
constituted the sayd Maples Master thereof And being one of the sayd shipps Company<br />
and hyred in the moneth of May last by the sayd Maples to goe the voyage in question<br />
(which hee accordingly went) hee thereby knoweth, that the sayd Maples did take upon<br />
him the government and command of the sayd shipp as Master thereof and went Master of her during<br />
the voyage in question And further saving his subsequent deposition hee cannot depose/
To the second and third articles of the sayd libell hee saith that hee this deponent was by<br />
the sayd Master William Maples in the moneth of May last hyred at the rate if<br />
thirty five shillings per moneth to sayle in the sayd shipp the voyage in question which<br />
was to bee made from this Port of London to New found land there to take in ffish<br />
and from thence therewith to sayle to Naples and from thence to Lepro there to lade fruite<br />
and soe to returne home for England, and the sayd Master Conditioned and agreed with this<br />
deponent that hee should enter into whole pay for the sayd voyage when the sayd shipp sett sayle<br />
from Gravesend, and this deponent accordingly went the sayd voyage, And saith hee well<br />
knoweth John Lewis John Tapley Peter Bartlett William Wood William hamblin<br />
Thomas dunstan William dudgin Roger Goodfman and William Bas[?ey] in the schedfule arlate named and knoweth<br />
they all served in the sayd shipp the voyage in question videlicet the sayd Lewis as Cooke<br />
the sayd Tapley as Chirurgion, the sayd Bartlet as Carpenter, the sayd Wood as Gunner,<br />
the sayd hamblyn as Boatswaine, the sayd dunstand as quarter Master, and the sayd<br />
dugin, Goodman and Basey and this deponent and others as Common Mariners of the sayd<br />
shipp and his precontest James Salmon as Gunners mate thereof, and saith the sayd shipp<br />
sett sayle from Gravesend with her sayd Company under conduct and command of her sayd Master upon the voyage in question upon or about the tenth day of June last past (at which tyme this deponent and all the rest of the shipps company<br />
entered into full pay except the sayd Carpenter who as he hath heard and beleeveth<br />
entered into full pay halfe a month before the sayd 10th day of June) and safely<br />
arrived at Newfound land and there tooke in her ladeing of ffish whence they depaarted<br />
therewith by the order of the sayd Maples the Master aforesayd to goe towards Naples<br />
