Merchant where he hath lived fower<br />
yeares and upwards, aged about 35 yeares<br />
a wittnes produced sworne and examinned he<br />
deposeth as followeth./
To the first and second articles of the sayd Libell given in<br />
and afmitted on the behalfe of the articulate William<br />
Mourton Esquire he deposeth and saith that he this deponent<br />
went over in the yeare 1650 unto Virginia in a shipp called<br />
the ''fflower de Luce'' belonging to this Port of London, and<br />
that there were shipped in the said shipp and transported from<br />
this Port to Virginia three servants for the proper use<br />
and account of the said William Mourton Esquire, whom this<br />
deponent well knoweth, being partly imployed unto Virginia<br />
upon his affaires and Account, and that the sayd three servants<br />
soe shipped and being safely landed for the said Mourtons<br />
account at Virginia were there delivered and sold to the<br />
arlate Jeremiah harrison of this deponents knowledge<br />
having many times seene the said servants soe sold in the<br />
service of the said harrison, And he saith that the three<br />
dozen of shooes arlate were made in Virginia by one<br />
James Attersoll a Shoomaker there and delivered unto the<br />
Assigne of the said William Mourton in satisfaction of<br />
a debt that the said Attersoll owed unto the said<br />
Mourton, and that the Assigne or Attorney of the said<br />
Mourton sold the said three dozen shooes unto the sayd<br />
Jeremiah harrison And he further deposeth and saith<br />
that he hath heard the arlate Jeremiah harrison say and<br />
acknowledge that he was to pay or was indebted to the arlate<br />
Mourton for the said three dozen of shooes the number of 828<br />
pounds of Tobacco, and for the said three servants the<br />
full number of 4600 pounds of Tobacco, And further he<br />
cannot depose.
To the third article of the sayd Libell he deposeth that he being<br />
much conversant with the arlate Jeremiah harrison in<br />
Virginia in th time arlate hath heard him say and acknowledge that he the<br />
sayd harrison did owe and was indebted into the arlate<br />
William Mourton Esquire over and above for the said servants<br />
and shooes the full number of 2000 ''lb'' of Tobacco in liew<br />
or satisffaction of a bill that one Mrs Clerke did owe unto<br />
the sayd Mourton, and that he would pay the same unto<br />
the sayd Mourton or his Attorney And further he<br />
cannot depose
To the fourth article he saith that in the yeares libellate Tobaccoes<br />
in Virginia did beare severall rates and prices And otherwise<br />
he knoweth not to depose.
