Newcastle and at Tinmouth bay, and knoweth the Interrogated Cable only by sight and [?that]<br />
since the damage aforesayd was done, and knew neither him nor the sayd shipp [?XXXX]<br />
before the sayd damage done And further cannot answere./
To the 3 hee saith hee knoweth not how many myles over the place called the well is but<br />
saith it is the common passe for all or most shipps bound to Newcastle<br />
and saith the night when the damage was done was not soe darke but that the [?Master]<br />
and Company of the ''Successe'' did easily perceive the shipp ''dove'' at a pretty distance<br />
off and called to her company to beare off and did their best endeavour to [?avoyd]<br />
coming neere the ''dove'', but the ''dove'' kept on her course and noe way regarded<br />

To the 4th Interrogatorie hee saith hee was one of those that cryed out to the ''dove'' and espied<br />
her comming upon the ''Successe'' and was present when the damage was done, and<br />
could and did discover that the sayd shipp had an Angell on her head and<br />
a byrde with white wings in her sterne which when hee sawe her againe in the<br />
River of Newcastle hee perceived was the picture of a dove, and hee knoweth it to<br />
be the same shipp that did the damage aforesayd for that upon his<br />
view of all the shipps at and neere Newcastle, hee sawe noe shipp that<br />
boare the same resemblance in their head and sterne but the shipp ''dove''<br />
in this suite complayned of And otherwise hee answereth negatively
To the 5th hee saith hee hath satisfied the contents thereof before soe farr as<br />
hee cann and further cannot answere otherwise than negatively
To the 6th Interrogatorie hee saith saving his foregoeing deposition hee knoweth<br />
nothing nor hath heard any thing to the ocntents of this Interrogatorie./
To the 7th Interrogatorie hee saith hee hath not heard or knoweth ought of the<br />
effect of this Interrogatorie and therefore cannot answere thereto./
