The merchant Edward Peters was living in Antwerp at the time of George Boschaert's deposition in November 1653. Another deponent, XXXX, stated that Peters had lived in Dover until ?1648, when he moved to Antwerp.

"1. Petition of '''Edward Peters of Dover, merchant''', to the King. John de la Barre of London, merchant, by his letters desired petitioner to receive two bars of silver from William Ledgent, arrived from San Lucar, in Spain, upon a bill of lading which he sent. Petitioner accordingly received and sent them to de la Barre. Jaques Baudoin of London, merchant, afterwards demanded the same, and attached Ledgent out of the Court of Admiralty of the Cinque Ports, and had judgment against him, whereupon Ledgent attached petitioner out of the said Court of Admiralty for receiving the said goods without authority from Baudoin, and petitioner washlu of the two bars of silver amounting to 560?., besides 4:01. costs. During the suit petitioner obtained of de la Barre a bond to keep him harmless, but when petitioner was cast in his suit, and required satisfaction of de la Barre, he bid him do his worst and boasted that he had a protection from his Majesty. Prays leave to sue de la Barre notwithordered to restore to Ledgent te vae standing the protection. [1 p.]
2. Petition of '''Peter Richaut of London, merchant''', to the same. Ever since 1621 the King of Spain has been indebted to petitioner in 50,000 crowns, part of which is for 100 pieces of ordnance that the late King gave leave for a special favour to the Conde de Gon domar to transport into Portugal for his master's service, another part for money lent here to Don Carlos de Coloma, the Spanish Ambassador, and the remainder for a confiscation in Spain of a ship laden with fish, the proceeds whereof were also employed for the King of Spain. Has solicited payment by himself and also by Lord Cottington when ambassador in Spain, by other men of power, by sending two of his sons thither, and lately by the present ambassador, Sir Arthur Hopton, but nothing has been obtained. Prays that before the ships of the King of Spain then in the Downa dep, ^ some assurance may be had from them for petitioner's satisfaction. yeares or thereabouts sworne and examined/:-
To the first article of the said Allegation hee saith, That the arlate Edward Peters<br />
for theise 12. yeares last past or thereabouts, wherein this deponent hath knowne him<br />
by correspondencie and personally, hath beene and now is a Merchant<br />
who hath for all that time and still doeth trade to Saint Lucar and Cadiz in Spaine<br />
for sylver and other Commodities, and had and hath his factors there to whom hee hath<br />
sent divers goods wares and Merchandizes to bee by them disposed off for his accompt<br />
which hee knoweth for the reasons hereafter expressed, And Otherwise cannot depose
To the second hee saith, That in the yeares 1651. and 1652. last past and moneths<br />
therein respectively concurring or some of them the said Edward Peters did send<br />
from Ostend in fflanders severall fflemmmish or fflanders goods wares and merchandizes of a great valew to<br />
John Lamotte William Jansen and others his ffactors and Correspondents at Cadiz<br />

Rissels stuffs, which hee accordingly caused to be laden in the same shipps wherein<br />
this deponent also sent goods for Spaine, and after the said producents goods were received<br />
aboard such shipps as were to transport them from Ostend to Spaine, the said producent<br />
showed this deponent the bill of lading which hee had received for the same, and after the<br />
said goods were arrived and delivered in Spaine to the said producents ffactors upon<br />
advice thereof from them received this deponent saw the insurance cleared which the<br />
producent had made upon his said goods. And otherwise saving his following deposition<br />
hee saith hee cannot depose, and saving that the said producent oftentimes alsoe<br />
told and acquainted this deponent about the tyme of the sending of the said goods, that<br />
hee had sent order to his said ffactors to dispose of the same for the accompt, and<br />
to make him returnes thereof in sylver plate and moneys:/

barrs of sylver made up in Canvas weighing together one hundred ninety seaven<br />
markes three ounces and a halfe of the first marke and number in the<br />
