for theise 18 yeeres last past in the said citie of Embden, and that his<br />
company were and are all Embdeners borne and there dwellinge, And that<br />
his said owners have dwelt all their times in Embden aforesaid and the<br />
territories thereof, and were and are subiects of that state referring himselfe<br />
to his foregoing deposition. And otherwise hee cannot answer saving as aforesaid.
To the fifth hee saith his lading consisting of 58 fatts and a halfe of old [?wine]<br />
34 peeces pf brandewine and 17 fatts of vinegar, all laden at [?CHXXXX]<br />
by Barent van Meppen dwelling at Rochell, and sixtie fatts of new<br />
wine laden at Saint Martins by the said van Mepppen, all which said wine<br />
and goods were soe laden for the accompt of his said owners of Embden<br />
and to be carried to Embden and there delivered to them and for their<br />
accompt, but the consignement made only to the said Godard [?BorenXXX]<br />
who therein acts for the rest of the said owners in partownershipp with him,<br />
All which hee knoweth being master and a part owner, and receiving the said goods<br />
aboard.
To the 6th hee saith hee signed two bills of lading for the said goods, both<br />
of one tenour, one whereof was left in the hands of the said Barent<br />
Van Meppen, to be sent to his said owners over land with the accompt, and<br />
the other hee brought alonge with him with the said Barent von Meppens<br />
letter, and that hee this deponent signed the said bills of lading at Rochell<br />
and [?then] that brought in the shipp together with the said, this deponents [?XXXX]<br />
from Embden, and all othee his papers and writings, were seized and came<br />
to the hands of Captaine henry Graeme commannder of the man of warr<br />
that tooke him, And that there were not any papers or writings torne<br />
throwne overboard or otherwise made away or concealed that hee knoweth of<br />
And that there were not any other bills of any other tenor signed [?XXX] [?XXXX]<br />
[?XXX] aforesaid, And otherwise referring himselfe to the said papers seized whcih<br />
hee beleeveth are brought into this Court hee cannot depose saving that amongst<br />
the papers seized there were papers which were given him by Parliaments shipps, [?XXX]
To the 7th hee was at Nantes in the said shipp about a yeere since<br />
to fetch wine and brandewine for his said owners, and was never in holland<br />
with her, and otherwise hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition.
To the 8th hee saith hee began the said voyage from Embden in ballast and was there to<br />
end the same, and that this deponent was to have 150 gilders for his voyage<br />
of the said owners, halfe whereof hee received on his going out, and was to<br />
receive the other halfe upon his retourne.
To the 9th hee saith hee had noe flagge, nor noe hollands collours aboard<br />
at the time of the said seizure, and that hee ws taken in the bay of<br />
Saint hellens in the Ile of Wight as hee was there comming to an anchor<br />
after hee had lain 5 dayes at Portsmouth and a night at the [?XXXX] and paid his duties there, and<br />
that the said Captaine [?Graeme] came aboard him in the boate<br />
of Captane [?Wieghts] shipp one of the Parliaments shipps, but did not<br />
showe this deponent his Commission, but tooke him aboard his shipp<br />
in the said boate.
To the 10th hee saith hee was not freighted by Charterpartie being sent<br />
out in the said imployment of the said owners.
