whereof John Pibus was Master<br />
aged 36 yeares or thereabouts a witnes sworne<br />
and examined deposeth and saith as followeth<br />
videlicet
To the .1. article This deponent saith that it is notorious that for<br />
theis sixteenth monethes last past and upwards there was and is open<br />
and publique warr and hostility att sea betweene this Commonwealth<br />
and the States of the United Provinces and their respective subiects; and<br />
that there have bene mutuall seizures of shipps and goods at sea on both<br />
parts and that there are rightfull and universall reprisalls granted<br />
by the authority of this Commonwealth for the seizng of the shipps and<br />
goods of the sayd States abd their subiects for reparation of dammages<br />
susteyned by the English Nation through the violences done against<br />
them by the sayd States and their subiects And somuch the sayd John<br />
Pibus did and doth knowe and hath acknowledged and declared<br />
somuch or to the like effect in the hearing of this deponent. And further<br />
he saith he cannot depose.
To the 2. 3. and 4th articles he refrreth himselfe to the Law and<br />
Customes of this Commonwealth and otherwise cannot depose
