any there, but whether there were any god aboard or noe he knoweth not.
To the ninth Interrogatory he saith the ship ''Recovery''was a ship wrackt shipp<br />
and had noe gunnes in her and was not in a likely condition to resist Prince<br />
Rupert nor did Resist him, and saith the Company of the ''Recovery'' amd<br />
some of the ''Hopewells'' Company made a shott against Prince Rupert from<br />
the ffort, and the ''Hopewell'' made some shott likewise against him, but<br />
all to noe purpose. and otherwise he cannot depose.
To the 10th Interrogatorye he saith the sayd shipp ''Hopewell'' and her lading<br />
were as he beleiveth worth the summe of ten thousand pounds or<br />
thereabouts att the sayd tyme of seizure and otherwise negatively.

To the 13th interrogatorye he saith the sayd shipp ''Hopewell'' came<br />
to Antegoe to take in the ''Recoveryes'' lading and for noe other purpose<br />
and saith that the shipp ''Hopewell'' was a shipp of 300 tonne, and<br />
about 30 seamen had bene a sufficient number to mannage her<br />
and so many she had when she went from this Port of London<br />
and when she came to Antego she had but about 18 or 19 men many<br />
of her Company being dead att Guiney and some stayed at Barbadas and saith that<br />
thirty men might have laden her in about 18 dayes and not lesse<br />
and nineteene men might have laden her in about 20 dayes<br />
and not lesse. and beleiveth that if there had bene more men<br />
they might have done the worke in lesse tyme, but doth not beleive<br />
that she could have bene laden and goods well stowed in 5. 6. 7. or<br />
8. dayes though therre had bene never so many men. and further he<br />
cannot depose.
To the 14th he saith he was one of the ''Hopewells''<br />
Company att the tyme of her seizure, and was att the very tyme of<br />
actuall seizing flying for his life in the shipps boat having stayd in<br />
her so long as there was any hope of saving her, and till the sayd<br />
Princes shipp was come to an anchor neere unto her, and<br />
saith he this deponent doth not sue Valentine Austin for any<br />
wages. and otherwise negatively. saving he hath spoken with<br />
the producent since his being produced a witnesse in this cause<br />
by way of ordinary and familiar discourse noe way relating to<br />
the meritts and effects of this cause, and not otherwise.
