saith that he knoweth well the arlate Dirick Dobler the father<br />
and Dirick Dobler the sonn and allso Gerada Peters, the widdowe<br />
Wessells, and John Jacobsen Carpfanger, Abraham Vander weeden<br />
and John deekins. And saith that the sayd Dirick Dobler the father<br />
and the sayd Carpfanger, Vander weeden and Deekins the Claymers<br />
in this Cause were and are all merchants and Burghers of Hamburgh<br />
and such as foe drive a trade betwixt Hamburgh and ffrance<br />
and that the sayd Gerard Peters and the widdow Wessells are by<br />
birth Hamburghers and reside and live att Nantes and<br />
doe much busines in factorage for accompt of Hamburghes<br />
merchants and particularly for the sayd Claymers, and<br />
the sayd Dirick Dobler the younger who is now sayd to be resident<br />
in ffrance att Nantes to learne the Lingua was and is a native<br />
of Hamburgh. The premisses this deponent knoweth to be true<br />
being himselfe borne in Hamburgh and there hath lived all his<br />
tyme, and hath seene and observed the dealing and factorage<br />
that the sayd Peters and Wessells have held and kept for the [?XXX]<br />
merchants of Hamburgh, And for such persons the sayd<br />
Claymers and factors att Hamburgh and Nantes are commonly<br />
observed reputed and taken to be. And further or otherwise<br />
being noeway privy to the lading of the goods now in question he<br />
saith he cannot depose.
To the Crosse Interrogatories
To the 1. he saith he knoweth not the sayd shipp ''Justice'' but hee knoweth<br />
well all the persons aforesayd videlicet the sayd Dobler the younger hee<br />
knoweth from his childhood and the rest of the sayd persons<br />
before mentioned for 20 yeares and upwards. And otherwise<br />
saving as aforesayd he cannot depose.
To the 2. he saith he cannot depose.
To the 3. he saith he hath knowne the sayd Peters and Wessels twelve<br />
yeares and upwards, and att Nantes 3 yeares or thereabouts<br />
and there they doe busines for Hamburgh merchants as aforesaid<br />
but how long they have in certaine lived there or whether<br />
they pay contributions att Nantes or trade for themselves<br />
or for Hollanders or others of the United Provinces he saith<br />
he knoweth not and further cannot depose.
