deponent did accept of the sayd meane frei … deponent did accept of the sayd meane freight in consideration that they<br />
the sayd ffraighters should lade none but free goods in respect of this<br />
Commonwealth, And the sayd ffraighters did att the tyme of<br />
making the sayd Agreement promise that they would not lade any goods<br />
aboard for accompt of any by Hamburghers onely, and att the lading<br />
of the sayd goods now in question did declare that they were all free<br />
goods and belonging to merchants of Hamburgh and that the others<br />
had any part or share therein. And the sayd dirick dobler in discourse<br />
with this deponent touching the premisses did assure this deponent<br />
with much asseveration that the sayd goods were all free and for<br />
Hamburgh and merchants there living onely or to that purpose but that <br />
he should declare to this deponent that his father gave him charge<br />
to the effect arlate this deponent remembreth not. And otherwise<br />
he cannot depose.
To the 4th article of the sayd allegation This deponent saith that the goods now in question<br />
were brought on board under e severall markes whereupon this deponent<br />
questioning the sayd ffraighters touching the sayd markes, they did expressly<br />
declare that the same were all for the accompt of Hamburgh merchants<br />
and that this deponent was to signe severall bills of lading for the<br />
sayd respective 4 parcells all for Hamburgh and this deponent did<br />
accordingly signed bills of lading for the same that is to say three<br />
bills of lading for each sayd severall parcell all of the same tenor<br />
of the four bills of lading which were on board the sayd shipp<br />
and (sic) the tyme of seizure and the same were and are reall and<br />
true and were signed by this deponents owne hand before the sayd<br />
shipp came from Nantes without any fraud or covin, And this deponent<br />
did not signe any other bills of lading of any other kind. And<br />
otherwise he cannot depose
To the 5th article he saith that the arlate John Jacobson Carpfanger<br />
Abraham Vanderweeden and John deekins are by repute all<br />
merchants of Hamburgh that use a trade to ffrance And the sayd<br />
widdow Wessells that deales much as aforesayd for Hamburghers<br />
did by her partner or Assistant Gerard Peters aforesayd lade some<br />
quantityes of goods aboard the sayd shipp now in question for accompt<br />
of [?XXX] the sayd Carpfanger weedon and deekins, but whether they<br />
had any effects in the hands of the sayd Wessells and Peter this<br />
deponent knoweth not. And otherwise he cannot depose.
To the last he saith his deposition is true.

thereabouts. and that there is .46 lasts of goods aboard for the<br />
acoompt of the sayd merchants all which are mentioned in the sayd<br />
