To the sixth article of the sayd allegation This deponent saith that after the<br />
seizure of the shipp ''Lewis'' as aforesayd he heard the master of her say<br />
and affirme that the sayd shipp came from Greenland in the Company<br />
of three other vessells which three were bound for france, and that<br />
the ''Lewis'' parted with them off of the North of Scotland, she being<br />
bound for the Texall as aforesayd and the sayd other three shipps designing<br />
to make for ffarnce by the north of Scotland and Ireland; which<br />
confessions of the sayd master this deponent heard him freely make, and<br />
otherwise cannot depose.
To the seaventh article of the sayd allegation This deponent saith he heard the sayd<br />
master of the ''Lewis'' freely say and acknowledge that the sayd shipp was<br />
bound for the Texall and that her lading was good prize to the English<br />
and saith there was not any License from the right honorable the Councell<br />
of State for the free passage of the sayd shipp ''Lewis'' to ffrance, shewne<br />
to the Captaine of the ''Kentish frigot'' that ade the surprizall nor<br />
to any other that this deponent saw knew or heard of. And otherwise<br />
cannot depose./
To the eighth article of the sayd allegation This deponent saith he was present<br />
and saw when the Master of the ''Lewis'' aforesayd was sent for aboard<br />
the ''Essex frigat'' commannded by Captaine Brandley, and hath credibly heard<br />
that the sayd master did confesse and acknowledge before the sayd<br />
Captaine Brandley and others upon oath that the sayd shipp did belong<br />
to Rochel and had bene att Greenland and was bound with her lading<br />
being oyles and whale bone to the Texall, and whether the first<br />
paper or schedule to the allegation annexed be the very originall<br />
confession of the sayd master taken in writing he cannot depose
To the ninth he saith he hath credibly heard and beleiveth to be<br />
true that the second paper or schedule to the sayd allegation annexed<br />
and now shewne him was found aboard the sayd shipp the ''Lewis'' att the<br />
tyme of her seizure aforesayd. And otherwise cannot depose.
To the last he saith his depositions are true. And otherwise cannot depose.
