To the first and second Articles of the sa … To the first and second Articles of the sayd Allegation This deponent saith and<br />
deposeth that in the monthes of August and September last past the<br />
arlate Phillip Dunkar was master or Captaine of the sayd shipp the<br />
''ffortune'', and was accounted the Owner thereof. And saith that the sayd<br />
shipp the ''ffortune'' being att or neere the Isle of Palma the arlate<br />
Jospeh Marks and Juan Baptista Magher[?tta], and Pedro Serrano, Juan<br />
Salazar Diegodo Valetta, Juan Gomez [?BXXto] Antonio Riche, all<br />
Spaniards, and subiects of the King of Spaine did putt and lade aboard<br />
the sayd shipp about the beginning of August 1653 last past for<br />
their owne Accompt and other Spaniards subiects of the King about<br />
3500 hides. one barr of sylver of the weight of about 900. pieces of 8/8<br />
about .1500. pieces of 6/6 in moneys. three Church bells, about .7. barrells of<br />
Tobacco .60. potaces of Tobacco of varinas or thereabouts. one barrell<br />
of tortle shells, and some dozens more of tortle shells. a small quantity<br />
of Campecha and Brazil wood, and severall good quantityes of<br />
ginger and sugars. to be transported in the sayd shipp to Dunkirke<br />
and there to be delivered for the Accompt aforesayd. And saith that<br />
the aforesayd Joseph Mark[?s] Jean Baptista Magherita and others<br />
the Laders of the sayd goods sylver and moneyes att the tyme of lading<br />
the same were the lawfull Owners thereof and so accounted, and saith<br />
that some of the sayd goods are since lost and perished by shipwrack<br />
and particularly the Sugar and ginger or most part thereof, and some<br />
of the foresayd Owners were likewise cast away, to witt, Antonio [?Roshe]<br />
and diago Valetta. And saith that the aforesayd Spaniards the<br />
Laders of the sayd sylver goods and moneyes, so many of them as are<br />
living and the heyres of them that are dead are now and ought to be<br />
the lawfull Owners of the sayd sylver money and goods that remaine<br />
unperished. the premisses he knoweth to be true having seene many<br />
of the sayd goods bought, and all of them quietly possest, and laden<br />
att Palma by the sayd Spaniards the Claymers thereof for the<br />
Accompt aforesayd. And otherwise cannot depose.
To the third, and fourth articles of the sayd Allegation This deponent saith and deposeth<br />
that the sayd shipp the ''ffortune'' having taken in her lading as aforesayd<br />
in August last past sett sayle from Palma and in her Course for dunkirke<br />
whither she stood bound about the sixth day of September last past neere the<br />
Westerne coast of England not farr from Plymouth mett with a violent<br />
storme wherein she was cast away, and part of her ladeing lost, the<br />
sugars especially. And saith that the master of the sayd shipp and all<br />
the mariners and all the Passenger, two excepted, were preserved<br />
and gott to shoare, and this deponent amongest the rest. and saith<br />
he saw a great part of the aforesayd lading preserved and brought safe<br />
to shoare, and particularly the hides and Tobacco aforesayd or a great part<br />
of them, and saw them in the possession of the Vice Admirall there, And<br />
this deponent then saw likewise upon the Strand one Mr Trevill whom he<br />
then understood to be the Vice Admiralties deputy of devon and Cornwall<br />
