belonge to any hollander or ffrench man, or subject either of the States of the<br />
United Netherlands or of the kinge of ffrance. Ad otherwise saving as aforesaid<br />
hee cannot depose.
To the 23th hee saith that when hee was soe at Cales as aforesaid there were<br />
the shipps the ''Sampson'' of Lubeck (Otto George Commannder) and the<br />
''Salvador'' of hamburgh (Christian Cloppenburgh master) then there alsoe<br />
and that they alsoe there received silver aboard, but to whom it belongeth<br />
or for whose accompt laden hee knoweth not. And otherwise hee<br />
cannot depose.
To the 24th hee saith hee came with the said shipp and goods from Cales on<br />
the third of October last.
To the Interrogatories in the second place. [CENTRE HEADING]
To the first hee saith hee shall be only soe farr profited by the release of<br />
the said silver and goods as that hee shall receive his freight and have his<br />
owne few particular goods aforesaid, and that otherwise hee hath noe interest in the<br />
said silver goods.
To the second hee saith that hee and his Purser received the said silver aboard<br />
and the goods, namely when this deponent was aboard hee received the same<br />
and in his absence his Purser received them and somtimes his Stiersman<br />
and that his said Purser tooke accompt and made entrie of all, and<br />
otherwise referring him selfe to the markes and numbers aforesaid appearing<br />
on the baggs, peeces and parcells aforesaid and in the bills of lading hee<br />
cannot depose, saving his foregoing deposition.
To the third hee saith that his said Purser made entrie presently upon the<br />
bringing aboard of each parcell as well of the said silver as of the<br />
rest of the merchandize, with the markes, numbers, [?parties] names and<br />
other particulars as in the said booke seized may appeare, And otherwise<br />
hee cannot depose, referring himselfe to the said booke brought into this<br />
Court.
To the fourth hee answereth negatively.
To the fifth hee saith hee knoweth Andrew Spinola and [?Cipriano]<br />
[?Zpuini] who laded 105 bales of the said wooll, who hee saith are of Sevill<br />
ffrancisco Lopez de ffonseca who laded 156 baggs of wooll, who us of<br />
Cadiz Nicholas Witman of the same who laded 3 cases of coch[aneale]<br />
John Wouters of Sevill who laded two cases of cochenilla, Alonso da<br />
Torres of Cales who laded 7 cases of cochenela, George da Boyes of<br />
the same who laded 5810 peeces of Brazill wood and Alonso da [?Scperro]<br />
of Cales who laded 36 canasters of Tobacco, and taketh the said Spinola<br />
and Z[?puini] to be Italians, ffrancisco lopez da ffonseca Alonso da Torres and Alonso da S[?cierra]<br />
to be Spaniards, Nicholas Witman, and George da Boyes to be fflandrians<br />
and John Wouters[?on] hee saith is a hamburger by birth, and saith that they<br />
are by habitation subiects of the kinge of Spaine, And otherwise saving the<br />
said bills of lading whereunto hee referreth himselfe hee cannot depose.
To the last hee saith hee verily beleeveth the said goods and silver to be<br />
really belonging to such for whose accompt the same are said in the bills<br />
of lading to be laden, and not to any ffrench or hollanders, or<br />
subiects of the States of the United Netherland or of the kinge of ffrance<br />
and saith that the said bills of lading were and are all true and reall<br />
and now wayes colourable, And otherwise hee cannot depose, saving his<br />
forgoing deposition whereunto hee referreth himselfe./
