Transcription To the third article and bills or scheduleTo the third article and bills or schedules aforesaid, hee saith and deposeth<br /> that the said bills were and are the true and originall bills for the said<br /> goods, and were and are all signed by and with the proper hand writing of<br /> the arlate Michael Andric Captaine of the said shipp, and the contents<br /> thereof were and are true and soe had and donne as therein is contained,<br /> which hee knoweth for the reasons aforesaid, and because hee was present<br /> in a merchants house in Smyrna and sawe the said Captaine signe the same with<br /> his owne hand writinge, And otherwise hee cannot depose. To the fourth article and schedules aforesaid hee saith that after the said producents<br /> had soe laded their said respective merchandizes aboard the said shipp at<br /> Smyrna they alsoe imbarqued them selves in the same and<br /> departed therewith from Smyrna directly for Ligorne, and tooke<br /> the said respective bills of lading alonge with them of his sight and knowledge<br /> comming alonge in their company, and seeing them put them up<br /> privately about their persons, and saith that in the said shipp the<br /> ''Saint Martin'' her course for Ligorne shee and the said goods were met<br /> with by a Squadron of eight English shipps said to belonge to the Parliament<br /> and commanded as hee hath heard by Captaine hall, and at the time of the said seizure<br /> the said producents were aboard the said shipp of his sight and<br /> knowledge being alsoe aboard her, And otherwise hee cannot depose,<br /> saving as aforesaid, and seeing the said shipp the ''Saint Martin'' is since<br /> brought into England. To the fifth article hee saith and deposeth that the said producents were and<br /> are Armenian Merchants, and doe usually trade and traffique from<br /> Guiland, Spaham and other places of Persia to Smyrna and thence to Legorne, and<br /> and (sic) other places, and frequently traffique with English in those parts and quarters, and for<br /> and as such they were and are commonly accompted and reputed, and<br /> saith that the said Jacomo and Sofer were and are Persians and subiects<br /> of the kinge of Persia and the said Saroukan was an is a subiect off<br /> the Turkesh Emperour or Grand Seignior, betwixt whom and<br /> this nation there was and is peace and amitie, And otherwise hee<br /> cannot depose./. To the crosse Interrogatories [CENTRE HEADING] To the first Interrogatorie hee saith hee came first aboard the said shipp at<br /> Smyrna, which was the time aforesaid of lading the said goods, And otherwise<br /> referring himselfe to his foregoeing deposition hee cannot answer or depose, saving<br /> what hee hath predeposed. To the second hee saith hee hath knowne the said hojah Jacomo foure<br /> yeares last, hojah Sofer eight yeares last and hojah Sarunkan for<br /> theise twenty yeares last past and saith the said Jacomo liveth<br /> in a village neere Rivan in Persia, and was borne there, the said Sofer liveth and was borne<br /> at Spaham in Persia, and the said Saroukan liveth at Constantinople<br /> and as hee hath heard was borne there, and this respondent liveth and<br /> was borne at Bursia aforesaid, and saith that they nor any of them<br /> doe not belonge to any ffrench ffactory at Smirna Constantinople [XXXXX], nor have<br /> any relation to the ffrench nor doe they use to traffique or deale with<br /> them. And otherwise saving as aforesaid hee cannot answer. To the third hee saith that the said shipp the ''Saint Martin'' is as hee beleeveth<br /> a ffrench shipp being under the command of the said Andri[?c] who is a<br /> ffrenchman, and saith the shipps company were atg the time of the<br /> said seizure ffrench men saving about five or six who were Venetians,<br /> and otherwise hee answereth negatively referring him selfe to his<br /> foregoing deposition. To the fourth hee answereth negatively to all the contents thereof,<br /> saving this deponent hath alsoe goods aboard the said shipp for his owne<br /> accompy and laden by him.
