To the fourth article hee saith and deposeth that the said Anthony and<br />
Lewis Good[?ine] and Adrian G[XXXXts] were and are dutch men and<br />
subiects of the States of the United Netherlands Provinces and Inhabitants<br />
of Amsterdam of his certaine sight and knowledge, and soe commonly<br />
accompted. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the fifth article and the schedule thereunto annexed hee saith and deposeth<br />
that the said schedule containeth the examination of his this deponent<br />
and others of his company therein mentioned, taken at Newport, which<br />
persons soe examined were by the said pirate after his seizure of<br />
the said shipp and lading taken out and put into a ffisherman who carried<br />
them ashore at Newport, and saith the said schedule was and is sealed<br />
and subscribed with the hand and seale therein mentioned.<br />
And<br />
further saith that the contents of the said schedule were and are true<br />
and soe had and donne as therein is contained. And otherwise hee<br />
cannot depose.
To the sixth article hee saith and deposeth that after the rescue and<br />
retaking of the said shipp the ''Charitie'' [XXX] [XX XXXX] as aforesaid by<br />
the Parliaments saud shipps, there was and is wanting and taken out<br />
and away from the said shipp two of her best cables, two of her<br />
anchors, three halsers, her greate main saile and foresaile<br />
her two mis[ine] sailes, her m[XXXXtX] saile and [XXXXX saile], two<br />
peaces of ordnance of about 1000 pounds weight a peace, and<br />
all her [?sounds], compasses, watch glasses, [?potts] and kettles, and<br />
the mans clothes, all worth the summe of 150 li sterling or thereabouts<br />
and the said proprietors were and are deprived thereof, which hee<br />
knoweth because hee this deponent came to dover in the packet boate<br />
after such his setting ashore at Newport, and arrived soe at dover<br />
within two dayes space after such bringing in of his said shipp to [?there],<br />
and the next day hee went aboard her and found all the foresaid<br />
particulars wanting and gonne./ And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING]
To the first hee saith that the said Captaine [XXXX] seized and rescued the said<br />
shipp the ''Charitie'' alias the ''Love'' neare Newport in fflanders, at which<br />
time there were about 60 chaldrons of coales aboard her, five peeces<br />
of ordnance, a quantitie of bullets, powder and match, and saith<br />
the said shipp belongeth to the port of Amsterdam, and was built at<br />
Serdam in holland, and that hee this examinate hath noe share or part there[?of GUTTER<br />
touching the rest hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition, and otherwise<br />
hee cannot depose.
To the second hee saith that the said shipp the ''Charitie'' alias the ''Love'' was in<br />
the possession of the said pirate to the time of the said rescue, and had<br />
bin in the said pirates possession about foure dayes and nights together<br />
which pirate had taken this deponent and others of his company out of her
To the third Interrogatorie hee saith<br />
and left but two in her which were captivated by seaven of the pirates company<br />
which hee put aboard her upon his taking her. And otherwise hee cannot<br />
answer saving as aforesaid.
To the 4th 5th and 6th hee had only his sea brief aboard when hee was<br />
seized, and had no papers or writings throwne over board, and otherwise<br />
negatively saving as aforesaid.
