the said doctor Clarke, and Examined deposeth as followeth videlicet./
That in or about the Month of May 1648, the said Shipp the ''Barnstable''<br />
''Merchant'' of London (Mr John W[?e]therdge being Master and Comander thereof)<br />
did goe out and sett saile from this Port of London upon a Merchandizeing<br />
and tradeing voyage which time the said Raph Page did goe Chirurgeon of<br />
and in the said shipp dureing the said voyage/ And hee saith That the said<br />
Shipp and Company sailed first to Newfound land, thence to Lisbone where<br />
shee was freighted by the king of Portugall for Brazeel[?a], and there dischardged<br />
and was reladen, and returned back againe to Lisbone, And hee saith that att her<br />
returne, Prince Ruperts Shipps rideing att an Anchor within the River of<br />
Lisbone, and the Parliaments Shipps rideing without the Harbour there<br />
happened a difference, betweene the Generalls of that ffleete and the king of<br />
Portugall concerneing the said Prince Rupert, insomuch the goods in the Brazeela<br />
ffleete goeing out from Lisbone was taken by the English Generalls, and upon<br />
that the said Shipp the ''Barnstable Merchant'' was likewise seised and<br />
taken by the king of Portugall in or about the month of June 1650, And<br />
the said Raph Page (together with this deponent and the said Shipps Company<br />
were all imprisoned andso con[XXXXed] seaven weekes or thereabouts And further saith that att the said seisure of the<br />

and taken away videlicet a Chest of Sugar worth 40 li sterling and upwards, a Chest<br />

on his backe) to a good vallue but the worth thereof he knoweth not And<br />
also all his wages (being for 20 monthes amounting to 50 li<br />
sterling), are (for the present) lost unto the said Page, who hee saith<br />
was and is a man very well affected to the Parliament and Commonwealth of England<br />
Allwhich hee knoweth to bee true because hee this deponent was a Marriner belonging<br />
to the said shipp and went in her all the said voyage, from the time of her<br />
setting forth to her seisure as aforesaid And otherwise hee cannot depose.
