Transcription To the 10th hee saith hee had his seabriefTo the 10th hee saith hee had his seabriefe of Rotterdam, bills of lading<br /> and letters for the said goods and a passeport for the same, and some o[XXX] papers<br /> and [?writings] of his owne aboard the said shipp when shee was taken,<br /> which letters and passeport hee gave to the said Captaine Ledg[?ent], and<br /> in the said letters the bills of lading; and [?for other] writings hee saith hee had none, To the 11th hee saith that hee this examinate being upon the meeting<br /> with Captaine Ledgent, fetcht in a boate aboard him, and by him the said<br /> Captaine demanded what goods hee had aboard, hee this deponent told<br /> him all [XXXXX] both what hee had as afore for his shipps provision<br /> of powder match bullet and shott and alsoe the said merchants 100 barrells and other goods,<br /> and therewith all delivered the said letters into his hands, and never made<br /> any deniall of the said 100 barrells or any other of his lading. To the 12th hee saith that the said 100 barrells of powder were not under<br /> the ballast, but there were some deale boards laid over them and fire<br /> wood laid upon the deale boards, the better to keepe them from the<br /> mis[XXXX] and casualti{?a] of fire and candle, and saith the barrells of<br /> shott interrogated were not covered with deale boards. '''Gabriel van Campen''' of Rotterdam in holland Gunner of<br /> the said shipp the ''Rat van Aventura'', aged 31 yeares or<br /> thereabouts sworne and examined. To the first article of the said allegation hee saith and deposeth that the producents<br /> Abraham Pau[X]son and company all dutchmen were and are owners of the<br /> said shipp the ''Rat van Aventura'' and soe commonly reputed, which they caused<br /> this summer to be built at Rotterdam And otherwise hee cannot depose. To the second hee saith that this deponent and the rest of the said shipps<br /> company were hired to serve in her by the moneth, and that in holland it is<br /> the manner or custome for the company to be acquainted with the designe of the<br /> voyage, but hee was informed when hee was hired to goe gunner of her<br /> that shee was going out on a merchant voyage and that shee was to goe<br /> to Bourdeaux to fetch her merchant aboard, and saith that before her<br /> proceeding in the said voyage there were an hundred barrells of powder<br /> and two casks of other goods laden aboard for the merchants<br /> accompt and noe other marchandizes, this deponent helping to stowe the<br /> said goods soe laden, And otherwise hee cannot depose, saving the said<br /> goods were soe laden aboard about tenn dayes before the shipps departure<br /> from Rotterdam, which was about the 11th of August last newe stil[?a]<br /> And otherwise hee cannot depose. To the third hee saith that about tenn dayes after her said departure, the<br /> said shipp being in her course for Bourdeaux was met with and taken<br /> by one of the Parliaments frigats named the ''Ni[?calamus]''<br /> and after carried into Plimouth, which hee knoweth being aboard her when shee<br /> was [?to] taken and being carried into Plimouth in the said frigot in her company<br /> and saith his precontest the skipper and company suffered their said shipp<br /> to be freely visited by such of the men of warr[?a]s company as came aboard<br /> her, and made noe resistance nor deniall of her lading, which was<br /> stowed publiquely in the said shipp, And otherwise hee cannot depose<br /> saving the said shipp had tenn gunns and thirteene [XXXXs] aboard her<br /> at the time of the said seizure. To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING] To the first Interrogatorie hee saith the said Jacobson hath bin master of<br /> the said shipp ever since shee was built and that this is her first voyage,<br /> and that her said owners caused her to be built, and further hee cannot<br /> answer saving as aforesaid.
