Rasa who is lately gonne to dwell in dort) were and are the true and<br />
sole owners of the said shipp and of her tackle and furniture, and that noe<br />
English, Irish, Scotch or ffrench man hath any share or part therein, nor in<br />
any of the goods, nor had any hand in putting in this deponent master of<br />
her
To the third Interrogatorie hee saith that the said Rocas P[XXXX] soe tooke the<br />
said shipp to freight of him this deponent at Rotterdam, hee an<br />
this deponent signing the originall Charter partie made by the notarie<br />
for the voyage, a copie or duplicate whereof hee saith was aboard<br />
his said shipp when shee was taken and is still in this deponents custodie<br />
and saith shee was freighted by the said P[XXXX] for 6 monethes last, which<br />
to secure or not to secure the said merchant any longer and was to receave his freight of the said P[?orvee] at Rotterdam, and<br />
saith that from Cadiz aforesaid hee was to saile according to such<br />
order as hee should receive from the said P[?arXee] or his<br />
factor, according to the said Charter partie.
To the fourth hee saith his shipps company were hired to serve by the<br />
moneth soe longe as this examinate had occasion to use them in that<br />
voyage, and were to be paid by this deponent and the rest of the shipps<br />
owners, who victualled the said shipp, which was victualled for tenn<br />
monethes or thereabouts with hering, stockfish, [?habbardXXX], beefe,<br />
butter, cheese, and beere and other necessaries.
To the fifth hee saith hee hath knowne the said Rocas P[XXXX] about<br />
eighteene yeares last, but did not knowe his parents, yet well<br />
knoweth his friends and k[?kindred] who hee saith are dutch and soe is hee<br />
the said Rocas.
To the sixth hee saith that all the powder that was seized in the said<br />
shipp was laden abaord her at Rotterdam. And saith the said<br />
affreightment was soe made about a moneth or five weekes before shee<br />
was fitted to proceede on the said voyage, and soe longe before this deponent<br />
knewe of the voyage, and whether hee should goe and what hee should<br />
carry, referring himselfe for further particulars to the said Charter partie<br />
which hee is readie to produce.
To the 7th hee saith that the said shipp had not bin at Bourdeaux nor other<br />
place in ffrance nor had the said P[XXXXs] [sonne] aboard when shee was<br />
seized as aforesaid, shee being then in her course for Bourdeaux to<br />
fetch him, and in the interin the care of her lading was committed<br />
to this deponent , who was to leave the disposall thereof to the said<br />
P[XXXXXs] sonne when hee should be taken aboard.
To the eighth hee saith that after the said shipps departure from Rotterdam<br />
shee was not in any port or harbour before her said seizure, saving that<br />
about two dayes after her said departure, meeting with fowle weather<br />
shee was forced to put into Go[XXX] [XXXt] in holland and stay there for<br />
the space of three dayes to attend the comming of the weather faire,<br />
nor had shee delivered out nor taken in any goods after her said departure<br />
from Rotterdam, and the rest of the said tenne dayes, or thereabourts betwixt<br />
her said departure and seizure shee spent at sea the weather being<br />
calmish. And otherwise hee cannot answer.
To the ninenth hee saith that this deponent was determined to [?bame] the<br />
said shipp the ''Rat van Aventure'' before was (sic) upon the stocke to be<br />
built, and that shee was never called or intended to be called by any other name,<br />
and saith this deponent was alwayes intended in himselfe and designed by<br />
the rest of the owners to goe master of her, and that there was never<br />
