made to the pretensed positions and<br />
Articles of a certaine pretensed<br />
Allegation given and admitted<br />
against them and others on the<br />
behalfe of Richard Wilson as<br />
followeth
To the first pretensed position they answer<br />
and accept the Contents in that soe farre<br />
as they make for them and beleeve that<br />
in the passage of the arlate shippe the<br />
''Ulisses'' from Naples to Genua the voyadge<br />
in question about the moneth of Aprill<br />
1649 shee mett with and was chased by a<br />
ffrenchman of warre whereupon these<br />
Rendents and the rest of the Companye<br />
of the said shippe by the masters Com<br />
mand and as is usuall in all shipps<br />
upon such an occasion did repaire to<br />
theire respective Quarters and were<br />
in a readines to have fought and defended<br />
the said shipp but were Commanded not<br />
to fire any Ordniance nor to fight<br />
against the said ffrench shippe untill they<br />
had notice order or the word from the<br />
said Wilson And otherwise they nor<br />
either of them doe beleeve the said<br />
pretensed position to bee true in any parte<br />
thereof.
To the second pretensed position they<br />
answer and beleeve and each of them<br />
answereth and beleeveth that the said<br />
ffrenchman of warre laid the ''Ulisses''<br />
onbord three times the time aforesaid>
