Transcription

To the second hee saith hee being then at Lisbone sawe the shipp Chapman
arlate about the beginning of the yeare 1651 (new style) [?XXXXX]
brought in thither under the Command of Officers of the King of
Portugall as a shipp seized by his authority, and observed that shee
was then manned with Portugueses, and the sayd Trevire and Company
put cleere out of possession of her, and this deponent alsoe observed that
the sayd Trevire after his comming then to Lisbone was committed to
prison, And hee saith hee well remembreth that soone after such
her arrivall at Portugall, shee was sent by the King of Portugall
his command and under Conduct of Portugueses to fetch Tymber
for the service of the sayd King but how longe shee was in the
service of the sayd King hee knoweth not but hath heard shee was
first seized in the Mederas in the yeare 1650 And further to this article
hee cannot depose/

To the 3 hee saith hee seeing her at Lisbone as aforesayd knoweth
the sayd shipp Chapman was of the burthen of three hundred tonnes
or thereabouts, And saith in his this deponents Judgment and estimate
a shipp of such burthen (well victualled for 36 men and provided
with ammunition fitting)might well bee worth (besides
Mariners wages) a hundred and tenn pounds sterling per
moneth And further hee cannot depose for that hee was not
present at her seizure in the Maderas nor knoweth how shee
was then provided either with victualls men or ammunition
nor in what condition shee then was./
