what boyes were then neere her the Imployment, he can positively affirme and sweare
that there was noe boy to the Anchor of the James and Martin interrogate
And further hee cannot answere/
To the 6th hee saith that hee observed that the James and Martin lay at Anchor
when the Imployment first came to Anchor neere her
but how long before shee had there ridd hee knoweth not, and saith that while
the Imployment lay neere her at Anchor hee observed the James and Martin did
take in some Pipe staves but whether shee was bound hee knoweth not nor hath
heard, And further to this Interrogatorie hee cannot answere/
To the 7th hee saith hee hath heard that ill disposed persons have somtymes
in the River of Thames cut of boyes and boys ropes from the Anchors of shipps
there rideing without the knowledge of the Masters and companyes of the shipps,
and that some who have bin taken have bin punished for soe doeing and
further to this Interrogatorie hee cannot answere/
To the 8th hee saith hee was on board the Imployment at the tyme the damage
in question happened./
To the 9th hee saith hee sawe the Master of the Imployment pay money to divers
men who were hyred to pumpe and bayle her after the damage in question was
done, and to those that digged to make way for the Carpenters to mende her
bilge where the same was hurt by the Anchor aforesayd, but tooke not soe
exact notice as to remember what the summes were but beleeveth it amounted
to the summes hee hath predeposed at least And further hee cannot answere/
saving hee saith hee was imployed by the Master of the shipp Imployment after
shee had receaved the dammage in question to helpe to pumpe and bayle her and doe
such other worke as was requisite for her preservation./
To the 10th hee saith hee neither was nor is any Owner of the Imployment mnor had or
hath any relation to any of her Owners other then that hee was Masters
mate of her as aforesayd And further hee cannot answere./
To the 11th hee saith for the reasons above expressed as alsoe for
that after the dammage receaved hee helped to underrunne the Cable of the James
and Martin hee can positively depose that shee the James and Martin had noe boy to her Anchor the
tyme Interrogate And furrther hee cannot answere./
To the 12th 13th and 14th Interrogatories hee saith hee never heard
any such thing as is Interrogate, and therefore cannot answere to the sayd
Interrogatories otherwise than negatively/
To the last hee saith hee hath satisfied the contents thereof
in his foregoeing deposition soe farr as hee can./
