[Iand by them on the said grounds, and to watch the said grounds
to keepe pthers from fishing and dredging there,. And otherwise hee
csnnot answer saving as aforesaid, and saving that about two monethes since

to pay him 3 li for his dammage

of this Court by him

said reference and agreement.

Examined upon the foresaid allegation.

James Stacey of Strowde in the County of
kent ffisherman, aged 51 yeares or thereabouts
sworne and examined.

To the said allegation hee saith and deposeth that hee hath well
knowne the East Swale and hartie shore allegate for theise
fourty yeares last past, during which space hee hath bin a ffisher
man and boy of Strowde where hee hath dwelt for all the said time
and for theise eighteene yeares off and on by times hee this deponent
hath fished there although hee dwelt in Strowde, and others of
Strowde have often fished there in the said space; And saith that
the said place or places is or are an arme of the sea and part
of the sea, where the sea ebbs and flowes, and where a shipp of
three hundred tunns may saile and passe in and out, and for such
the same was and is commonly accompted and reputed; And saith
that the same being soe a part of the sea the ffishermen of Strowde and
Milton and places adiacent ought to fish there and dredge. And
otherwise hee cannot depose, saving hee hath knowne the Marmaduke
frigot carried in and out there.

To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING]

To the first and second hee saith hee is a fisherman of Strowde in his
owne right, and claimes right of fishing and dredging in the grounds
and places in question: and is concerned as a partie in this sute against
the ffeversham men and contributeth towards the chardge thereof, and
endeavoureth to maintaine his right. And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the 3 and 4 hee saith that the men of ffeversham interrogated doe use
to fish and dredge in the said grounds in question, and endeavour to expell
others therefrom, claiming to themselves the right of fishing and
dredging there. And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the 5. 6. 7. 8 and 9. hee saith that hee for his part was never
troubled or arrested for fishing on the said grounds, but others of Milton
and Strowde have bin troubled by the ffeversham men for fishing in the
same, namely John Reppingall and John [?Sammon]
and others. And saith the ffishermen of ffeversham use to provide and
store the said grounds with oisters and use to watch the said grounds to
keepe others from fishing there. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
