other excuses, whereupon the Captaine seeing her weare a friends
colours expected till morning, and then hee sent his master to commannd
the said master of the hare aboard againe, And otherwise hee cannot depose,
saving hee knoweth the premisses and what hee shall hereafter depose to this
allegation, for that hee was one belonging to the Tyger and was aboard
her all the time from the taking of the hare to the time of her bringing
into Portsmouth.
To the tenth article hee saith that after the seizure and that harman
Goris a passenger or factor in the hare was come aboard the Tyger
this deponent heard him say and acknowledge that indeede the master of
the hare would have fought with the English, but his men would not.
nor would be perswaded by their master thereto. And otherwise hee cannot
depose.
To the 11th hee saith that when the said master of the hare in the feild
came aboard Captaine Sannders, this deponent was present and heard
Captaine Sannders tell him that hee had waited 6 or 7 dayes for him
and that hee very well understood of his being in haver de Grace
and of his being laden for ffrench mans accompt with many other
particulars to the effect articulated, but his answer thereto this deponent
knoweth not, nor what hee said to the Captaine thereupon. An otherwise
hee cannot depose, saving that the Captaine telling him soe many particulars [#]

To the 12th. 13th 14th and 15th hee saith that the said Captaine Sannders in
this deponents presence and hearing demannded of the said master of
the hare his Invoice, bills of lading and all his papers, to be delivered
up to the said Captaine, whereupon the said Master delivered up to
the said Captaine a parcell of papers, and the said Captaine
demannding if these were all his papers, hee answered yea, and
said hee had noe more, and though the Captaine severall times
urged him and told him hee must needs have more, hee still denied and
said hee had noe more or other then thise. And otherwise hee cannot
depose.
To the 16. 17. and 18th articles hee saith and deposeth that there came
from on board the hare into the Tyger the foresaid harman
Goris, who comminge before Captaine Sannders and being questioned
by him touching the said shipp and lading, hee answered and told the
said Captaine that hee had under him, for hee had (as hee said) ywo
thousand pounds adventure in the said shipp, and affirmed that
hee was an English man and well acquainted in Gracious straete
and Lumbard straete London, and being demannded by the said Captaine
of two or three persons whom the said Captaine named and said to be there
dwelling, whether hee knew them or not, hee answered that hee did
not knowe them, and then the said Captaine demannding his
bill of lading for the foods, hee pretended to have aboard, hee the
said Goris answered that hee had none, hee was there in person
himselfe with his goods. And when the Captaine told him hee
wondred there were noe more bills of lading for a cargo soe rich and
consisting of soe ,many parcells, hee the said Goris answered that
the said Captaine tooke them while they were making bills, Then
quoth
