Transcription

Tanner Adams and Richardson then well knew him this deponent to be a
purveyor for Tymber for this Commonwealth for that hee had divers times before
bought of them Tymber for the use of this Commonwealth, and the sayd tymber was
sold by them to him this deponent as Purveyor for Tymber for this Commonwealth And hee
alsoe saith that upon this deponents buying the sayd tymber of the sayd Tanner
Adams and Richardson, hee this deponent did agree with them, and they with him that
the sayd tymber should be delivered unto hoyes at Yarmouth and thenn brought
and delivered into the States yardes at Deptford, Woollwich, and Chatham, or some
of them, And hee further saith that in performance and persuance
of the sayd bargaine the sayd Tanner Adams and Richardson did at Yarmouth
deliver and put into hoyes there severall parcells of the tymber and
plankes soe bought, which were since received at the yards aforesayd for the
used of this Commonwealth, And saith hee this deponent hath in persuance
of the sayd bargaine with his this deponents owne hands, paid unto the
sayd Adams and Richardson (two persons aforesayd) out of the states money
by order of the Lord Protector for the sayd tymber and plankes to the sayd
Adams and Richardson in the summe of nyne hundred pounds sterling or thereabouts
And further to these articles hee cannot depose./

To the 4th 5th and 6th hee saith that the sayd Tanner did tell this depondent that the
arlate Edgar had by the privitie of the arlate Tanner Adams, Richardson
(in the lifetyme of the sayd Richardson) and by their directions, appointment and with their
privity and consent receaved at least fiftie loads of the tymber and plankes
aforesayd soe bought of them by this deponent for the use of this Commonwealth,
And saith that hee well knoweth that about the beginning of
September 1655 the said Tanner (the sayd Richardson being then dead as hee beleeveth)
did in liewe of supplie of the tymber and planke sold and delivered to the sayd Edgar
as aforesayd send fiftie loade of tymber and planke in the vessell of the arlate
Joseph Waters which was received and delivered into the states storehouses at
Debtford there delivered by the order and authority of this Court of Admiralty
for that the sayd Adams did oppose the delivery thereof having
as hee pretended sold the same to the allegate Joseph Artis
And further to these articles hee cannot depose./

To the 7th hee saith that hee hath heard the sayd Tanner confesse and
acknowledge that the bill of sale made of the tymber and planke
arlate to the arlate Joseph Artys was made since the sayd Tymber and
planke was laden aboard the hoye of the sayd Joseph Waters at Yarmouth
and not before And further to this article hee cannot depose/.

To the 8th hee cannot depose saving hee beleeveth the sayd Adams could not
without the consent of the sayd Tanner and Richardson sell any more then a third part
of the timber and plankes arlate./

To the 9th hee cannot depose./

To the 10th he cannot depose./

To the 11th and 12th hee cannot depose/

To the last hee saith his foregoeing deposition is true/
