William Iles of ffeversham in the County of Kent
ffisherman where and in the hundred thereof hee hath lived for these thirty five yeares
last past or thereabouts aged 46 yeares or thereabouts a wittnes
sworne and examined saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet/

To the sayd allegation in the Acts of Court hee saith that
the grounds allegate called the Nebb or harty shoare, East
SWale the Becon grounds Nesse grounds and Pollard grounds have
bin and are ffishing grounds and water courses (with bedds of oysters
in them) belonging to, and commonly accompted to belonge to and be
parte of the Mannor and hundred of ffeversham, and soe have bin reputed
for theise thirty yeares the ffishermen tennants of the hundred and
Mannor of ffeversham aforesayd have bin commonly accompted t
have the sole right and tytle to fish in the sayd grounds excludeing all others
whatsoever, and this deponent hath observed during the sayd fishing and converted
the fish thereof to their use, (saving that hee saith that sometymes the fisher=
men of Stroud Milton and other places would and did in the night tyme
and secretly as they could) fish for oysters upon the sayd grounds and some
of them being taken soe doeing hath of this deponents knowledge
bin fined by the Court held for the mannor and hundred
of ffeversham aforesayd and have submitted them selves as trespassers
for soe doeing and paid their fines [#]

saith hee well remembreth that about 14 yeares since hee being then in a boate with one John Golson and others ffishermen of
the mannor and hundred of ffeversham, on the grounds in question
a ffisherman of Strowde or Rochester came in the night tyme to fish upon the sayd grounds and did fish
for oysters thereupon and was taken soe deoing by this deponent and the sayd Golson and others, and perceiving him
selfe to be discovered the sayd Strowde man or Rochester man and his company threw great stones as this deponent and the
other ffeversham men and hurt the sayd Golson soe with one of them that hee was not able to followe his
trade of ffishing for a longe tyme after

And hee alsoe saith that he this
deponent well knoweth that the ffishermen [?XX] tennants of the sayd
Mannor and hundred of ffeversham have and doe pay and ought to pay to the Lord of the sayd
Mannor for such their priviledge of fishing the sayd grounds the yearely
rent of twenty three shillings and fower pence, this hee knoweth for that
hee hath bin imployed by the sayd Tennants some yeares to pay the sayd Rent
And hee alsoe saith hee knoweth the arlate William Lusonn and the rest of
the producents in this cause and saith they are tennants of the sayd Mannor
of ffeversham and soe accompted, and soe have bin of this deponents knowledge
for divers yeares last past, hee having seene them yearely make their
appearance at the Courts held twice a yeare for the Lord of the sayd Mannor
of ffeversham as tennants thereof And saith hee never heard nor beleeveth that the ffishermen
of Stroud Milton halstow Gillingham or other places adiacent or any save
the ffishermen tennants of the Mannor and hundred of ffeversham had at any tyme any right to fish
