In the Dukedom of Holsteyn but in habitant in
Lisbone in Portugall aged 34 years or thereabouts
a Wittnes sworne and examined saith as followeth videlicet
To the first article of the said Nelson hee saith that for about three yeares last
past hee this deponent hath constantly heard and observed amongst Merchants
and factors at Lisbone that the arlate Manoel and ffrancis derricikson
were and are Merchants living at Hamburgh and driving a trade to and
holding a Correspondence at Lisbone in the way of Commerce and marchant-
dizing for all that time and that they had and have then factors and correspon-
dance there: And further hee cannot depose saving his subsequent deponents
to which he referreth.
To the Second he saith, That hee this deponent: being very intimate and
familiarly acquainted and conversant with one Manoel Rodriquez Isidro
a merchant and factor inhabitant at Lisbone in Portugall, as also a
witness: Visente de Basto his this deponents precontest, hath by meanes of such his
acquaintance observed, That the said Manoel Rodriquez Isidro on or
about the moneths of June or July in the yeare 1654: Last past did
at or neere Lisbone in Portugall Lade or cause to bee laden foure chests
of sugar of the first marke in the margent in and aboard the shipp the
Nightingale arlate (Henry Glassam then Master) to bee transported to
Roame in ffrance, and there to bee delivered for the accompt of the Said Manoel
and francis derrickson to one Antronio Rodriquez de Morash their ~ ~
Aqent or Correspondent there, and soe much the said Manoel Rodriquez
Isidro did communicate to this deponent; both before and after the lading
of the said goods, and particularly this deponent saw and perused the said Manoel Rodriquez
Isidro bookes of accompts where in the Said goods were entered for the said
accompt and marked at aforesaid, Hee further saith that by meanes of
his intimate and familiar Correspondence with the said Visente de Basto
his precontests, hee well knoweth that the said Vincent de Basto as ffactor to
the said producents and for their accompt did at or about the time aforesaid
lade or cause to bee laden aboard the said shipp to be transported and delivered
as aforesaid the goods and merchandizes ensueing and marked with the
Second marke in the margent, That is to say 6 bales of matts, two
barrels of aloes a great quantitie of beades of divers sorts and prices a
