To the Cross Interrogatories [CENTRE HEADING]

To the first hee answereth and saith, That hee this rendent is a Native
of Lisbone in Portugall, where he hath lived for all the time interrate
and otherwise negatively to any part thereof:
To the second he referreth himself to his foregoing deposition
To the third hee saith hee saw not the sugars in Controversie bought nor
any payment for the same
To the 4th hee saith hee this rendent never saw the interrates Manuel
or ffrancis Derrickson at Lisbone, and saith the said Manuel Rodrigues
Isidro who laded the said sugars as aforesaid was and is a Portugueze
And otherwise negatively to any part thereof.
To the 5th hee saith hee was not present at the signing of the bills of
lading interrate, but gave order by his broaker that the said Henry Glassing
should sign three bills of lading as aforesaid for the goods soe laden as
is predeposed by this examinate, and that the said broaker bringing the
same readie signed to this rendent, hee disposed thereof as aforesaid.
To the 6th hee saith, That the interrate Anthonio Rodrigues de
Marais is a married man, and keepeth house of himself in Roane
and dealeth in merchandizing for himself, and as a factor for forraigners
and is no servant to any Frenchman:.
To the 7th hee saith, hee knoweth nothing of the consignation of the
sugars in controversie further or otherwise than as aforesaid
To the 8th hee saith, hee doeth not knowe neither doeth he believe in
Conscience that the sugars interrate doe belong to any other than the Manuel
and francis Derrickson of Hamborough.
To the 9th hee saith hee knoweth nothing of any Insurance upon the goods in question.
To the 10th hee saith hee was never aboard her but neere Lisbone, when
hee laded in her the goods by him predeposed, And knoweth not what
other voiages shee hath made, nor where nor to whom shee made
her discharges: And further cannot depose.
To the 11th hee saith hee knoweth nothing thereof.

Examined on an allegation on the behalfe of his
highnesse the Lord Protector/
John Clerke of the parish of Allhallowes Barkeing London
Cittizen and Merchantaylor of London aged 37 yeares or
thereabouts a witnes sworne and examined saith and deposeth
as followeth videlicet./
To the first article of the sayd allegation hee saith and deposeth that the arlate
Samuell Swinnock did in the moneth of March last past and about the second
day thereof videlicet in March 1654 buy of the Commissioners for prize goods arlate
the hundred baggs of Ginger arlate and did on or about that day subscribe his
name to the sayd Commissioners boake of Sales by them kept of such goods as
are by them sold And bought them at the rate of Twenty sixe shillings for each
