eamined he deposeth and saith as followeth
To the first article of the sayd allegation he deposeth and
saith that he the deponent was in the moneths arlate videlicet in
the months of August September and October 1654 a
slave in New Salley, and that in the said
month of October the hull of the shipp arlate was brought
into the said Towne of New Sally and that being floating upon the
sea, was taken and brought into the said Towne of New Sally
by Captaine Shevan of the said Towne, And he alsoe
deposeth and saith that Anthony Strett the Master of her
being afterwards taken and brought slave unto the said Towne
of New Sally in the time of his this deponents captivity there
did declare and acknowledge to this deponent that he and
all the sayd shipps company had left and quitted the said
shipp in feare being oursued by an Enemy And further
he cannot depose.
To the second article he deposeth and saith That after such time
as the said shipp was brought into New Sally, The name of which
shipp was the Dolphin as appeared by Letters taken in her which
sayd Letters this deponent hath seene, The sayd shipp was by
publique authority of the sayd place exposed to sale, and upon
exposure of her to sale was sold to the party producent, and that
of this deponents certaine knowledge the said Ashwyn the party
producent did in and towards payment for the sayd shipp called
the Dolphin alias the Salley Merchant give a shipp called
the Returne of London and fifty Duckatts unto the Governor
of New Sally arlate, And further he cannot depose.
To the third, fourth, fifth and sixth articles of the sayd
allegation he deposeth and saith that the shipp arlate being
really and upon good consideration (as is predeposed) bought by the
sayd party producent, that he the sayd producent was in quiett
and unmolested possession of her from the said Towne of
New Sally in or about the month of November 1654 unto this
port of London untill that Alderman ffrederick arrested
her, and that the said producent did at his owne proper cost
and charges equipp and furnish and apparrell her, and alsoe
as being the Owner and Proprietor of her did putt in this
deponent (after such time as he had purchased this deponents
freedom) Master of her, And that he this deponent as Master
of her did bring her from New Sally unto this Port of
London for the account of the sayd John Ashwin the
party producent And further he cannot depose./
To the seaventh article he deposeth and saith that without
doubt had the shipp arlate miscarryed since the producent bought
her, it had bin the producents losse, And further he cannot
depose.
To the 8th article he saith that all the said shipps Company [?that]
came home this last voyage had bin and were Captives in Sally
untill such time as their release was procured by the producent and
others And further he cannot depose./
