valew of six pounds sterling Cordage and other Materialls worth about
twelve pounds sterling, six and twentie hogsheads of Vinegar each hogshead
worth fourtie shillings, three hogsheads of wine worth about 12: li sterling
one hogsgead of brandewine worth abot 7. or 8L li sterling a quantity of
wallnutts worth at the least 12: li sterling Mariners cloaths which this deponent
beleeveth could not be lesse worth then eight pounds sterling and the Cable and
anchor, which the said seizors cutt off and left behind them upon such their
running away with the said shipp and goods from under Portland Castle.
well worth sixteen pounds sterling The premisses hee well knoweth as being
Master of the said shipp, presemt at the said sezure and having since the
plunder aforesaid been twice or thrice aboard his said shipp and seene and observed
the goods and necessaries predeposed to be there wanting and taken away, and that
by the seizors as the Steersman and others of the said shipps Company have
constantly affirmed and declared to this deponent. And further hee cannot depose/:
To the Crosse Interrogatories:- [CENTRE HEADING]
To the first Interrogatorie hee saith, That hee hath bin Master of the said shipp
ever since shee was built at Edam as aforesaid, and is a hollander native and
subiect of the states generall of the United Netherlands hath lived at Edam all the
time interrate, and is allied to swerall of the Owners of the said shipp, and hath
together with his sister Ave Jansen 1/16th part of and in the saiid shipp, and
hath together with his said shipps Companie interest in the Vinegar, wine,
brandewine and nutts aforesaid And further cannot depose./
To the second hee saith hee hath knowne the interrate Claus Jansen hoone
Peter Cornelison Pates and all the rest of the Owners aforesaid for ten yeares
and upwards, and saith they are all of them hollanders and reputed natives of that
Company./
To the third hee saith hee hath knowne the shipp interrate ever since shee was
built at Edam, as predeposed, att the Costs and Charges of the Owners aforesaid
and by their direction and that the same was there built by Alvert Jansen
a Ship Wright and one of her Owners this deponent being Overseer of the said
building by the said Owners direction.
To the fourth hee saith, That hee this rendent payd unto the said Alvert Johnson and others
for and on the behalfe of the Owners aforesaid the summe of twelve thousand
and eight hundred gilders for the hull of the said shipp and tackle apparell
and furniture thereunto belonging, And saith hee doeth not at present remember
nor can hee particularize the Owners of the said shipp and their particular shares
exactly, there being many of them, and the list of their names and share which
this deponent had aboard at the time of the said seizure being taken away by the
aeizors.
To the 5th hee refrreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition, And further cannot depose
saving that hee this rendent bought the said salt of the said Monsieur de [?XXXX]
to whom the said moneys were payd for the same by the said Isbrand
Rodenburch, as the said Rodenburch after the payment thereof affirmed and as the
said [?Videau] himselfe acknowledged to this rendent.
To the 6th hee saith hee hath knowne the interrate Isbrand Rodenburch
from his infancie, and saith hee hath lived abut three yeares at [?XXXX]
