Adding footnotes
- Go into edit mode
- Insert immediately after the sentence or phrase you wish to annotate the following macro:
<ref>This is the footnote text</ref>
- Replace 'This is the footnote text' with the footnote you wish to add, using the format: first name, surname, title, (place of publication, date of publication), page or folio number
- Save the page
Creating an electronic link within the footnote to a digital source
- Using the link icon in the top RH menu bar in your open window, highlight the footnote text which you wish to become the clickable link. This will place square brackets round the text, within the existing curved brackets
e.g. <ref>[Electronic link to a digital source]</ref>
- Insert the URL of the digital source IN FRONT of the existing text, but still within the square brackets, leaving one space between the end of the URL and the start of the footnote text
e.g. <ref>[http://XXXXX Electronic link to a digital source]</ref>
- Save the page, and the footnote text will now show 'Electronic link to a digital source' as a clickable link, which, when clicked, will go to 'http://XXXXX'

- "1. hee thereby experimentally knoweth that it is a usuall and frequent
2. thing amongst Merchants and their correspondents to transferr and
3. assigne over to each other either goods shippes or debts or bills of exchange
4. in satisfaction of such debts as they owe one to an other, and hee this
5. deponent within the sayd tyme hath often made such transfferanses and
6. Assignements to Correspondents of his and bin discharged by them
7. of debts hee ought them and hath discharged others upon of debts owing
8. to him upon the like transferrances and assignements and saith that
9. unlesse such transferranses and assignements should bee allowed as goods
10. Merchants could not trade one with an other especially in Spaine
11. And further hee cannot depose/
12. To the 5th hee saith hee well knoweth the arlate Christopher Boone and that
13. hee is an Inhabitant of London and a subiect of this Commonwealth
14. And verily beleeveth the sayd Boone by reason of the sayd Transferense

Exchange of goods in truck
The twenty-four year old London merchant John Hunter made reference to exchange of goods "in truck", in an answer to a further interrogatory ministered by the Admiralty proctor Mr Webb.
- "48. hee saith and deposeth that the this deponent bought the fore said two pipes
49. of wine (which hee hath said to be for mr webbs account) of the said John
50. Lopez de Miranda, in truck for a bole of goods ˹linnens˺ which this deponent carried
51. out for the said mr webbs account, and what the said linnens came short to pay
52. further said two pipes, this deponent supplied with money, and this deponent
53. gave noe obl obligation or undertooke to pay ˹ought to˺ mr Page for the same, but it
54. was agreed betweene them that if mr Page would here give this deponent
55. thirtie pounds sterling a peese for the said two pipes, this deponent
56. was to let him have them
