Transcription
1. he saith that the said shipp being at Lisbone in the possession
2. of the interrerogated George Chappell the Master of her was
3. in the moneth of June 1650 seized upon by order
4. of the king of Portugall, and the said Chappell
5. and the shipps Company turned out of her and
6. imprisoned and the said shipp made a man of
7. warre and imployed in the service of the king of
8. Portugall against the ffleet of this Commonwealth, and
9. that the said shipp was in the said king of Portugalls
10. service for the space of sixe moneths, for which service
11. shee was neither any satisfaction made that this
12. deponent ever heard of And further he cannot depose
13. To the third and fourth Interrogatoryes he deposeth and saith
14. that the shipp interrate was of the burden of about 25
15. Tonns and had in her at the time of seizure 21 gunns
16. and that she was a new, strong, tight and stanch shipp
17. (the said voyage being the first she ever went) and
18. that she could not deserve less than 200li per month for
19. her imployment and that at the time of her being
20. seized or sequestred she was very well victualled and XXX GUTTER
21. with ammunition, and that her provisions were very much
22. diminished when she was redelivered And further
23. he cannot depose.
24. To the fifth Interrogatory he deposeth that 35 Mariners did
25. belong unto the said shipp besides the Master interrate
26. who were all imprisoned by the said king of Portugall
27. and deteyned sixe months at least to their great losse
28. and damage, and he saith that the said Master and
29. his servants wages amounted unto 54li at the least for
30. the said sixe monthes And further he cannot depose.
31. To the sixth Interrogatory he deposeth, that the Master interrate
32. did not, nor could expend lesse than 137li in necessary
33. charges for the sustenance of himselfe and Mariners
34. during their imprisonment, having not soe much as
35. the allowance of water from the king of Portugall And
36. further he cannot depose.
37. To the 7th and 8th Interrogatoryes he deposeth and saith that
38. the Master interrate had on board the said shipp at the
39. time she was seized or sequestred divers goods as seeds,
40. glasses, paper, silkes and other merchandizes, but to
41. what certaine value he knoweth not all which he lost
42. and was deprived of And he saith that the goods
43. and sixe monthes wages of 29 Mariners of the sayd
44. shipps Company amounteth and cometh unto 697li 15s
45. at least And further he cannot depose.
