the knowne Correspondent here of the saydfd Lopez de
Apatris the Producent from which wools the said Linnens proceeded And further he cannot depose
To the eight and ninth articles he deposetha nd saith that
it is the custome for the Master of Purser of every
shipp to signe three bills of Lading, all of one tenour,
and he deposeth that the bill of Lading for the nine
bales of Linnen predeposed of, he saw the
same bill in the hands of the said Melchior Aranguren
and that it was signed or firmed in the name of
John kein the Master of the said shipp the hare in
the feild, but he saith that he knoweth not the said kein
and he saith that the bill of Lading mentioned in the
said ninth article (which is it that he supposeth he saw) being
not now by him to be seene or perused that he cannot further
depose to the said articles, nor to the schedule therein
mentioned./.
To the tenth article he deposeth that In the said Bill of
Lading which this deponent saw concerning the sayd nine
bales of Linnen, the said Linnens were consigned to one
Peter Grout, whome he saith he knoweth not, and he saith
that Sevill is about ninetie Leagues distant from
Cadiz, and that noe shipps of any burden goe up to
Sevill, And further he cannot depose./
To the eleaventh article he deposeth and saith that (to his
the deponents best remembrance) It was in Aprill 1655
when the arlate Aranguren did here in London showe
and communicate unto him the deponent a Letter from the
arlate Bertram de Baud and Mathew de La ffitt
signifying therby the lading on board the arlate shipp
the hare inm the ffeild the said nine balles of Linnens for
the accompt of the sayd Lopez de Apatris, and that the[?n]
and therewith the said Aranguren shewd this deponent
an Accompt, which was sent with the said Letter, whicg
Accompt did and doth declare and sett forth the
Nature, quality and prices of the said nine bales of
Linnens, And he saith that at this his time of
examination he perusing the said accompt (remayning in
the Registry in this Court) that it is the same Accompt
and none other, which the said Aranguren imparted and
communicated unto him the deponent, The which he knoweth
for that it is the same character this deponent hath seene
in all the Letters which have come from them the sayd
De Baud and De La ffitt unto the said Aranguren
And further he cannot depose./
To the twelth article he deposeth and saith that he is
convinved by and for the reasons by him predeposed that
the said nine bales of Linnen were and are the proper goods
of the said Lopez de Apatris , and that he being a man
of a good estate runneth the sole adventure and hazard
therof, And further he cannot depose.
