Biographical synthesis

Robart Scotting (alt. Robert Scotting) (b. ca. ?; d. ?). Mariner.

Was boatswain of the ship the John and Katherine at time of collision. At the time of his deposition he had become a mate of the same ship.[1]

Resident in 1659 in Wapping in the county of Middlesex.

Evidence from High Court of Admiralty

Thirty-two year old Robart Scoting deposed on November 16th 1659 in the High Court of Admiralty.[2] He was examined on a libel in the cause of "John Miller Master of the ship the John and Katherin and company against the Coast ffrigott whereof Elliot was master but now one Henry Risby is master and against Alderman William Vincent and company coming in for their Interest and against all et cetera".[3]

Robart Scotting stated that "for and during all the moneth of December 1658 and before and since the Libellate John Miller was the master and part owner of the ship the John and Katherine and soe Comonly accounted which hee knoweth for that hee belonged to the said ship about two or three monethes before the damage in question. happened and hath belonged to her ever since".[4]
