IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I Robert Raworth of Grayes Inn in the County of Middx: Esq:r being in good health and of perfect mind memory and understanding (praised be God) knowing the certainty of death and the incertainty of the time thereof that I may have no worldly cares to distract me when it shall please God to call mee to my bedd of sickness I doe this ffourth day of November Anno dui 1675:e in the 27:th yeare of the reigne of our Soverraigne Lord Charles the Second by the Grace of God of England Scotland and ffrance and Ireland King defender of the ffaith do make and declare this my last Will and Testament in writing in manner and forme following:
FFIRST and principally I recommend my immortall Soule into the hands of God that gave it, assuredly, trusting by and throigh y:e merritorious death and passion of Jesus Christ my Blessed Saviour and Redeemer to receive a glorious Resurrection among the just, my Body, I leave to the Earth from whence it came (without being dissected) to be decently but privately ?interred in the Chancell of the Parish Church of Throcking in the County of Hartford And I will and appoint that a decent monument be there sett upp for mee and Katherine my Deare Wife daughter of the Learned and ever to be ??revered S:r Henry Spelman Kn:t and because I have given largely in my life time to my Relations and ffriends and have lately purchased Lands that I shall not have so considerable a personall Estate as I lately had I shall give but for Legacies But first I give to my always dutifull and onely child ffrances now Wife of Jeremy Elves Esq:r two hundred pounds to bee disposed of as shee notwithstanding her to venture and as if shee were soe: shall appoint more I can not now give her haveing already given a good porccon with her marriage and more since
ITEM I give to the said Jeremy Elwes her husband One hundred pounds And haveing about nine yeares since given to ffrances Elwes and Mary Elves my Grandchildren ffive hundred pounds a peece by payment of one Thousand pounds to their ffather Upon this Agreement that hee should give to either of them one Thousand pounds a peece as of my Guift at their respective ages of eighteene yeares or daies of marriage w:ch first happen, and if either of them died before Two Thousand poundes to the Survivor of them I cannot well at present give either of them any more not doubting but that my Wife if they bee dutifull to and observant of her will make such addiconn as she cann to what I have given them
ITEM I give and devise to my Grandchild John Elwes the summe of ffive hundred pounds secured by Bond from the said Jeremy Elwes the ffather and me as his Surety to Michael Pearce but in trust for me, and so by him declared by deed to be paid to him when hee shalla ccomplish his age of one and twenty yeares, and in the meane time to be imployed and disposed of for his maintenance and if hee shall dye before, then betweene the younger Children of my daughter as my Wife if shee bee liveing or if dead as my daughter shall think fitt in her good discretion And if either of my Grandchildren Robert or John Elwes will study the Law, which I desire one should, I hereby give and devise to him that shall so studdy the Law all my manuscripts and printed bookes (except such of Divinity as my Wife or daughter shall chuse for xx themselves
ITEM I give to my Grandchild Jeremy Elwes one hundred pounds hee being otherwise well provided for by the settlement upon his Mothers marriage and otherwise by me by this my Will
ITEM I give and appoint mourning for my sonn and daughter and their children and such of their and my Servants as my Wife shall think fitt and to no other

KATHERINE my deare Wife All my plate Jewells householdstuffe Leases Mortgages in my owne name or in trust for mee Goods and Chattels whatsoever paying my debts Legacies and ffunderall expenses And I make and order the said Katherine my Wife sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoakeing all former Wills by mee made/
THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND Testament of mee the said Robert Raworth touching the disposition of Mannor of Throcking, and all and singular my Messuages Lands Tenem:ts and Hereditaments in Throcking or elsewhere in the County of Hertford I give and devise all and singular the said Manno:r Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments to the said Katherine my deare Wife for and dureing the tearme of her naturall life without impeachment of xxxx other than voluntary and wilfull xxxst which I hereby declare is and shall bee in lieu and satisfaction and with much advantage to her my said Wife of what was obliged Upon my marriage to give or leave her at my death And from and after her death I give and devise to the said Robert Elwes my Grandchild and his heires one Annuity or yearely Rent of Two hundred poundes of lawfull money of England to bee issueing and going out of all my said Mannorr and Lands in the said County of Hertford payable at the ffeasts of the Annunconn of the Virgin Mary and S:t Michaell Tharchangell yearely by equall porconns the first payment thereof to be and be made at that ffeast of the ffeasts aforfesaid which shall happen the said Annuity or yearely Rent of Two hundred poundes shall be behind and unpaid by the space of thirty dayes next after a all very, or any the said ffeasts on which the same as aforesaid ought to be paid that then and from thereforth it shall and may be lawfull to and for the said Robert Elwes and his heires into the said Mannor Messuages Lands and premisses in the said County of Hertford and every or any part thereof to enter and distreyne as well for the said Annuity or yearely Rent as for all arrearages thereof if any happen to bee And the distress and distresses then and there found and taken lawfully from thence to take lead drive and carry away impound and in pound to detyne and keep untill he, and they, shall be fully satisfied and paid the said Annuity or yearely Rent and all arrearages thereof, if any bee And in case of non paymemt of the said Annuity or yearely Rent of Two hundred poundes or any part thereof by the space of ffourescore dayes next after all every or any the ffeasts or dayes of payment on which the same as aforesaid ought to be paid, That it shall and may bee lawfull to and for the said Robert Elwes his Heires and Assignes into the said Mannor Messuages Lands and premisses and every or any parte thereof to enter and the possession thereof to deteyne and keepe untill hee and they shall bee fully satisfied and paid the said Annuity or yearely Rent and all Arrearages thereof if any be with his and their costs and charges therein susteyned
ITEM I give and devise the Reverson and Inheritance of the said Mannor Messuages Lands and premisses in the said County of Hertford from and after the death of my said Wife charged and chargeable with the said Annuity or yearely Rent of Two Hundred poundes to my nephew William Trumball Doctor of Lawes Thomas Raymond of Grayes

GRAYES Inn in the County of Middlx Esq:r and Richard ?Spoure of Grayes Inn aforesaid Gent and their heires dureing the life of the said ffrances Ewes my daughter Upon Trust and confidence that they and the Survivors and Survivor of them and their heires of the Survivors and Survivor of them, and the heires of the Survivor of them shall permitt and suffer such person or persons as the said ffrances Elwes my daughter notwithstanding her coverture shall direct or appoint to receive the Rents and profitts of the premisses over and above the said yearely Rent of Two Hundred pounds And from and after her decease I give and devise the said Mannor Messuages Lands and p:rmisses in the said County of Hertford charged and chargeable as aforesaid to the said Jeremy Elwes the ffather for and dureing the tearme of his naturall life without impeachment of or for any manner of wast other than in the Mantion House Barnes and Stables thereto And from and after his decease then I give and devise the said Mannor Messuages Lands and premisses in the said County of Hertford charged as aforesaid to the said Jeremy Elwes my Grandchild for and dureing the terme of his naturall life without impeachment of wast, other than in the said Mantion Houses Barnes and stables thereto And from and after his decease To the first second & third and all and every other sonn and sonns of the said Jeremy Elwes the sonn successively one after another and the heires male of his body being alwayes preferred before the younger and the heires male of his Body. And for default of such issue I give and devise the said Mannor and premisses in the said County of Hertford to the said Robert Elwes for and dureing the terme of his naturall life without impeachment of wast other than in the said Mantion House Barnes and Outhouses thereof and from and after his decease to the first second third, and all and every other the sonn and sonns of the Body of the said Robert Elwes successively one after another and the heires males of the body and bodyes of all and every such sonn and sonns, the Elder of the same sonns, and the heires male of his body being alwaies preferred before the younger of them, and the heires male of his body And for default of such issue then I give and devise the said Mannor and premisses in the said County of Hertford to the said John Elwes my Grandchild for and dureing the time of his naturall life without impeachment of wast other than in the said Mantion House and the Barnes and outhouses thereto And from and after his decease then to the first second third and all and every other the sonn and sonns of the body of the said John Elwes successively , one after another and the heires males of the body and bodyes of all and every such sonn and sonns the elder of the said sonn and sons and the heries of his body being always preferred before the younger of the same sonnes and the heires maleof his body. And for default of such issue then I give and devise the said Mannor and P:rmisses in the County of Hertford to the fourth, fifth, sixth, and all and every other sonn and sonns of the body of my said daughter ffrances Elwes, successively one after another, and the heires males of the body and bodyes of all and every such sonn, and sonns, the Elder of them and the heires males of his body being alwayes preferred before the younger of them, and the heires males of his Body, and for default of such issue, then I give and devise the said Mannor Messuages Lands and premisses in the said County of Hertford to my Nephewes Thomas Raworth and his Brother Robert Raworth and their heires equally betweene them to bee devided And for defualt of such issue to my owne right heires for ever Provided alwayes and my Will and meaneing is that if the said Jeremy Elwes the ffather and Jeremy the son, or either of them shall within one yeare next after the said Jeremy the son shall accomplish the age of one and twenty yeares convey settle and assure to and upon the said Robert Elwes and his heires Freehold

FREEHOLD Lands and Tenements of Inheritance in the County of Lincoln or neare to London (ffenn Lands excepted) of the cleene yearely vallue of Two hundred pounds of a good and indefeasible Title and free from all Incumbrances That then the said Annuity or yearely Rent of Two Hundred pounds given and devised to the said Robert as aforesaid sall cease and be void any thing in this my Will conteyned to the contrary there of in any wise notwithstandinge Provided further that in case the said Jeremy Elwes my Grandchild shall happen to dye without issue male of his body, whereby the said Mannor and premisses in the said County of Hertford shall come in possession to the said Robert Elwes, That then also the said Annuity or yearely Rent of Two Hundred pounds shall cease and be void And as for touching and concerning my Mannor:s and Lordshipps of ??Wrawby and Brigg als Glanford Brigg with their and either of their rights members and appurtenances in the County of Lincoln and all and singular my Messuages Lands and Tenements and Hereditaments in the said County of Lincolne the Reversonn and Inheritance whereof after the death of Elizabet Tirrwhitt Widdow, I lately purchased to me and my heires I give and devise the same Mannors and premisses to the said William Trumball Thomas Raymond and Richard ?Spoune and their heires Upon trust and confidence that they and the Survivors and Survivor of them and his heires shall permitt and suffer the said Katherin my Wife (if shee shall survive the said Elizabeth Tirwhitt) to hold and enjoy the same and receive the Rents and profitts thereof dureing her naturall life and from and after her decease shall pay and dispose of the Rents and profitts thereof as the said frances my Daughter notwithstanding her coverture, and as if shee were solo and unmarryed shall by writing under her hand direct or appoint And shall convey, and assure the Inheritance of the said Manno:rs and premisses in said County of Lincolne to or to the use of such of the child or children of my said daughter and for such Estate and Estates and in such manner as my said Wife and daughter or the Survivor of them shall by any deed or writing under both their hands and seales, or under the hand and seale of the Survivor of them or by Will or writing purporting a Will whether sole or married to bee sealed published and declared by her or them in the p’sence of two or more credible persons shall give limitt, direct, or appoint And in default thereof to the said Jeremy Elwes my sonn in Law for and dureing the tearme of his naturall life And from and after his decease to or to the use of the said Jeremy Elwes my Grandchild and the heires male of his Body And for default of such issue, to or to the use of my said Grandchild Robert Elwes and the heires male of his Body and for default of such issue to or to the use of my said Grandchild John Elwes, and the heires male of his Body, And for default of such To or to the use of my right heires forever
ITEM I give and devise my ffarme Messuages Lands and Hereditaments in ??Whitfeild or elsewhere In the said County of Kent to the said Katherin my Wife her heires and Assignes for and towards better payment of my Debts and Legacies
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I the said ROBERT RAWORTH have to every sheet of this my last Will and Testament conteyneing eight sheetes of paper sett my hand and to the last of them my seale the day and yeare first above written
