MR. DENNE,

I have received a letter from my cosen Oxinden of Denton who deseires your companie with mine tonight att his house that wee may go tomorrow early a fox hunting att Denton wood, where Sir William Brockman, captaine percevall and others will bee a hunting, pray if you can goe call mee about six of the clok this afternoone and you shall find me readie both then and ever

Notes

(1) Is Captain Percivall Sir Anthony Percivall of Denton Court? It seems reasonably likely given the location of the fox hunt at Denton Wood

(2) An article in wikipedia on - Sir William Brockman characterises him as "English military leader, politician, and land owner, and who fought for the Royalist cause in the English Civil War." His dates are given as b. 1595, d. 1654. A - portrait of Sir William Brockman is included with the article, courtesy of Hugh Drake-Brockman. He was appointed High Sheriff of Kent in 1642, but soon imprisoned and held until 1645. Sir John Honeywood being appointed to the position of High Sheriff in his stead. He participated in the defence of Maidstone against Fairfax in 1648, during the second English civil war. He was arrested following the capture of the town, and held until at least 1651.

Brockman's home was - Beachborough, Kent, which was engraved by ?Badeslade.
