Abstract & context

The newly widowed Elizabeth Dickons gave her residence as the parish of St.Olaves Hart Street when she bore witnesse on 24th October 1662 to recognising her husband's handwriting in his will. She and the other deponents had found her husband's will in his study in the morning of the 4th October 1662, after he died during the night.

Other members of the Dickons family also bore witness, and gave addresses for various London locations: George Dickons, merchant, "of Allhallowes Barking," Edward Dickons S:t Mary Maudlin Mille Street (or Milk Street), Ann Dickons, a widow, of the parish of "greate S:t Hellens"

A post-mortem inventory has survived for a John Dickons, of St. Olave, Hart Street, with am index record stating, perhaps erroneously, a date of October 29th, 1663. The physical document needs to be inspected.[1]

- "This night was buried, as I hear by the bells at Barking Church, my poor Morena,1 whose sickness being desperate, did kill her poor father; and he being dead for sorrow, she could not recover, nor desire to live, but from that time do languish more and more, and so is now dead and buried." (a footnote is appended: "The burial of Elizabeth, daughter of John Dekins or Dickens, is recorded in the parish register of All Hallows, Barking, as having taken place on October 22nd.
