Thomas Hoskins
Sir Edmund’s eldest son, Thomas Hoskins, was with Sir George Oxenden in the East Indies, and appears in company records in Broach, from whence he wrote a letter detailing accounting problems at the Broach factory.[2]
Young factors needed to learn the mechanics of accounting, and Henry Gary wrote to Sir George Oxenden from Goa, resolving to teach the young Charles Bendysh how to draw up merchant accounts:
M:r Bendysh[3] who presents you w:th his Humble service is in very good health whoos Company is at present á great Comfort to mee hee Continewes practizeing his writeing, & I am resolved to take some paines w:th him in showing him how to keepe Merch:ts acco:ts[4]
