Abstract & context

Thomas Bromfield was a London merchant and the husband of Margaret Oxenden, one of Elizabeth Dallison's three sisters. He wrote to his brother-in-law, Sir George Oxenden, the day after his sister-in-law's funeral in the parish of Clerkenwell, which he had attended.

He refers in his letter to a past discussion with Sir George Oxenden and with Elizabeth Dallison regarding George Oxenden taking his son, Harry Bromfield, "as yo:e owne." Payment had been made by Thomas Bromfield, as desired, but he is concerned that his son is not formally employed by the English East India Company.

Notes

Henry Bromfield

A web genealogical source suggests that Thomas Broomfield (sic) married circa 1635 Margaret Oxenden (b. 1617, Wingham to parents James Oxenden and Mary Oxenden), and had five children (Margaret Broomfield, b. 29 Dec 1635; Thomas Broomfield b. 19 April 1637; Henry Broomfield b. 19 Oct 1640; Elizabeth Broomfield b.18 November 1641; and Dorothy Broomfield, b. 20 November 1646). "Hary", mentioned in Thomas Broomfield’s letter, is presumably the younger son, Henry Broomfield. He would have been 24 in March 1665.[5]
